Ellyse Perry is a sportswoman from Australia and the first to play cricket and soccer for her country internationally. She debuted for her country in both soccer and cricket less than two weeks apart. Ellyse holds the distinction of being the youngest player to debut for both the Australian women’s national soccer team and cricket team. She is an all-around player with the same level of skill as a fast-medium bowler and a right-handed batswoman. Ellyse is a defender in soccer. She has struggled in the past to decide between soccer and cricket, despite the wishes of both associations to keep her in their respective games. Early Life & Childhood
Australia’s Ellyse Alexandra Perry was born in the Sydney suburb of Wahroonga on November 3, 1990. Following her attendance at “Beecroft Public School,” she graduated in 2008 from “Pymble Ladies’ College.” Ellyse attends the “University of Sydney,” where she studies social science and economics.
Ellyse participated in touch football, golf, tennis, athletics, soccer, and cricket while attending school. While attending ‘Pymble,’ she was the captain of the college cricket and athletic teams.
Ellyse was drafted by ‘New South Wales’ for the under-19 interstate tournament in January 2007, not long after turning sixteen. Her state won all three games because to her outstanding play and three wickets taken. She was chosen for the ‘Australia Youth’ squad for a tour of New Zealand a month later. Ellyse debuted in the 2007–2008 Australian summer season as a player for “New South Wales” in the “Women’s National Cricket League” (WNCL). Against Karen Rolton, the highest-ranked cricket player in the world at the time, she claimed her first “WNCL” wicket. In the second half of the double header, Ellyse batted for the first time.
Ellyse, 17 years and 3 months old on February 15, 2008, was the youngest Australian Test cricket player ever. In the 2009 England-hosted ‘Women’s World Twenty20’ event, she did not perform up to par.
In the 2009–2010 “WNCL,” Ellyse achieved her greatest score in limited-overs cricket. Australia won the series, however, she was named “Player of the Match” in the 2010 World Twenty20 final. Ellyse’s domestic Twenty20 cricket performance was subpar compared to her international exploits.
At the ‘ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup’ in India in 2013, Ellyse was the first bowler off the bat. She was, nevertheless, receiving a final-day injection of painkillers in her ankle. She was named “Player of the Series” in June 2015 after amassing the most runs and wickets during the 2015 “Women’s Ashes” tour of England.
In the inaugural season of the Twenty20 Women’s Big Bash League in 2015, Ellyse captained her Sydney Sixers team, which placed second overall.
In the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20, Ellyse played against India on November 17, 2018, making history as the first Australian player (male or female) to participate in 100 Twenty20 international matches. She became the first Australian cricket player to collect 100 wickets in a Twenty20 international match while playing in the championship match against England.
In the ‘Ashes’ Test in 2019, Ellyse made history as the fourth female cricket player to score two centuries in a row. She became the first player, male or female, to reach 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in Twenty-20 international cricket during the second “WT20I” match of the “Women’s Ashes.”
Career in Soccer
On August 4, 2007, Ellyse played her first international soccer encounter at the Hong Kong Football Club in an Olympic qualifying match versus Hong Kong. She made her debut in domestic soccer for the Central Coast Mariners during the 2008–2009 Australian W-League season.
In 2009, Ellyse became a member of Canberra United for the W-League season. Elise Kellond-Knight of “Brisbane Roar” and she shared the “Young Player of the Year Award” that year. That season, Ellyse was named the overall “Club Player of the Year.”
Ellyse declined an invitation to compete in the 2010 ‘AFC Women’s Asian Cup,’ preferring to play for her side in the ‘ICC World Twenty20.’

Along with friends Charlie and Jazz, Ellyse and Sheryl Clark co-wrote a series of children’s books in 2016 that followed her journey from elementary to high school. The novels depicted Ellyse as a youthful sports enthusiast.

A 13-year-old child was struck by a ball that Perry hit into the audience during a “WBBL” game after it rebounded off a chair. Perry hurried to assess the boy’s condition and pointed the ambulance providers in the boy’s direction as soon as he realized the ball had struck him. The youngster was rushed to hospital. Perry later gave the youngster a call to see how he was doing.
