The group was founded by Flick along with three friends from the University of Washington: John Paine, Mike Kirkland, and Dick Foley. Other musicians, including Bob Haworth, Tom Coe, Terry Lauber, Mike McCoy, Mark Pearson, and Karl Olsen, have also contributed to the group at various times.

As part of the ensemble, Bob Flick has released several hit singles, such as ‘Greenfields’ (1960), which reached the top of the charts in Norway and hit #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The band’s 1961 album, ‘B.M.O.C. (Best Music On/Off Campus),’ was also very successful, reaching #4 in the US. One of the tracks from this album, ‘The Green Leaves Of Summer,’ made it into the top 10 in Norway and peaked at #65 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

In 1962, The Brothers Four recorded the title song for the film ‘Five Weeks in a Balloon.’ Together with Jerry Dennon, the members of the group started a radio station in Seaside, Oregon (KSWB) in 1968, which was sold to another entity in 1972. Even after more than 60 years since its formation, the group remains active to this day.
