The ‘Instacart’ growth was not without problems. 2015 saw a class-action lawsuit filed against Apoorva. The workers who delivered and shopped for the food were wrongly designated as independent contractors, according to the lawsuit. Apoorva made the decision to hire “Instacart” customers as part-time workers as a result. He also promised them some perks, like health insurance.

Apoorva gained a lot of knowledge from the disastrous failure of the online grocery start-up “Webvan” while doing research to establish her own business.
