Hunter McGrady is an American size-inclusive model and advocate for positive body image. After landing a spread in Sports Illustrated’s 2017 Swimsuit Edition, she has been dubbed the curviest model to ever feature in one of the magazine’s issues. Even though she didn’t win, she participated in the magazine’s “Swimsuit Model Search” that year. However, the initiative “In Her Own Words,” which enabled the activist in her the chance to make a statement by writing on her body words that are important to her, allowed her to make her official debut as a rookie on the 2018 swimsuit edition the following year. She has done work for companies including Lucky Brand, Bare Necessities, and Lane Bryant and is presently signed to Wilhelmina Models Curve Division in Los Angeles and New York. She has posed for pictures for Ashley Graham’s “Swimsuits For All” and Melissa McCarthy’s apparel business “Seven7.” In September 2017, she appeared on the runway at New York Fashion Week. In the future, she wants to start her own apparel and cosmetics line.

Become a Star

Hunter McGrady was informed by four agencies when she was 15 years old that she needed to lose three inches from the area around her hips in order to work as a size zero model. At age 16, she finally started her career as a straight-size model, but she struggled to find enough modeling jobs since many thought she was too large for a size 2. In those early days, she tried to starve herself to fit the stereotype of a model while also feeling depressed, unhappy, and embarrassed. Her life and career, however, completely altered once she noticed one “Vogue Italia” cover featuring plus models like Robyn Lawley, Tara Lynn, and Candice Huffine, after three years of struggling with insecurity.
She had gained weight and was a size 14 when she became interested in plus-size modeling. She went to Wilhelmina Models, who signed her and secured her three modeling assignments within a week, including Forever 21, Lucky Brand Jeans, and Miami Swim Week. Since then, she has started to receive modeling assignments on a regular basis. The “pinnacle of every model’s career,” in contrast, was, in her opinion, “Sports Illustrated.” She also realized her desire when she participated in the “SI Swimsuit 2017 Model Search” and was chosen to be featured in a spread of the publication in December 2016. She posed on the beach for that photo session in nothing but body paint. Despite the fact that she did not win the model search, the next year she was chosen as a rookie.

Hunter McGrady, an activist, now openly displays her size-16 figure. She has, in her own words, “been a size two, a size 18, and everything in between,” and she put the words “Worthy,” “Fearless,” “Confident,” “Resilient,” “Powerful,” and “Boundless” on her body to characterize herself during the 2018 “Sports Illustrated” “In Her Own Words” photoshoot. She thinks the phrase “plus-size” is “a little bit segregating,” but she doesn’t take offense with what people call her. As a result, she thinks the terms “plus-size is OK,” “curvy is excellent,” and “size-inclusive” are all fantastic. McGrady, who was “devastatingly sick” when she was 16 years old, is now an activist who uses her social media posts to share important messages with her followers about having a positive body image, much like she did on the “SI” photoshoot. With the slogan #AllWorthy, she launched the body-positive campaign in April 2017. She is an ambassador for the JED Foundation for Suicide Prevention and a mental health advocate.
