This versatile artist, best known as the founder of the rock band Peter Hook and The Light, wears several hats. He’s also the lead singer and bassist for the band he started in 2010. Hook had previously worked with Joy Division, a post-punk band he co-founded with Ian Curtis and others. Joy Division was a critically praised band that was on the rise to fame when lead vocalist Ian Curtis took his own life, forcing the band to disband. The band’s distressed surviving members enlisted the help of new musicians and renamed themselves New Order. The band was one of the most well-known and critically praised bands of the 1980s, combining new wave and electronic dance music. Hook was a member of the band and also worked on other projects at the same time. After leaving New Order, he created his own band, Peter Hook and The Light. His new band, which includes his son Jack, is known for performing Joy Division and New Order records live on tour. With landmark classics like ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart,’ ‘Thieves Like Us,’ and ‘Ceremony,’ he has enriched the world of rock and roll throughout the course of his thirty-year career.

Childhood and Adolescence

Irene and John Woodhead gave birth to him. When he was three years old, his parents divorced. His grandmother nurtured him till his mother remarried and took him with her.

Ernest W. Hook was his stepfather’s name, and the young kid adopted his surname. Before returning to England, Ernest’s business led the family to Jamaica for a few years.

Peter Hook’s Career

In 1976, Peter Hook and his boyhood buddy Bernard Summer created Warsaw, which included Ian Curtis as a vocalist and lyricist. In 1977, the band made its debut at the Electric Circus.
In 1978, the band was renamed Joy Division. In the same year, the band self-released their first Extended Play (EP), ‘An Ideal for Living.’ The single ‘Warsaw’ was included.

In September 1978, Joy Division made their television debut on Tony Wilson’s local news program ‘Granada Reports.’
Martin Hannett produced the band’s debut album, ‘Unknown Pleasures,’ which was released in 1979. On the album, he used a variety of strange sound effects, such as the sound of a bottle cracking and someone eating crisps.

Ian Curtis, the band’s vocalist, had epilepsy and regular seizures. In January 1980, Cutis had two seizures while on tour in Europe with Joy Division. Curtis committed suicide in May 1980, sick and sad.
Joy Division’s second album, ‘Closer,’ was released in July 1980, and was recorded before Curtis’ death. It was critically acclaimed and reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart.

Curtis’ suicide left the remaining members of the band devastated, but they vowed to continue with their lives. The surviving members renamed the band New Order and reorganized it with new members.
‘Movement,’ New Order’s debut album, was released in 1981. Despite the fact that the album was not a great hit when it was released, its affiliation with the former Joy Division helped it gain appeal over time.

During the 1980s, the band was quite popular and had a large fan base. ‘Power, Corruption & Lies (1983), ‘Brotherhood’ (1986), and ‘Technique’ were among their albums released throughout the decade (1989).

‘Republic,’ their next album, was released in 1993. In the United Kingdom, the album reached number one. The band took a break that year and reformed in 1998.

The band’s latest album, ‘Get Ready,’ was released in 2001 after an eight-year hiatus. The singles ’60 Miles an Hour’ and ‘Crystal’ was included. The music on this album was different from those of its predecessors, with a heavier emphasis on guitar.

Their album ‘Waiting for the Sirens’ Call’ was released in 2005. ‘Krafty,’ ‘Jetstream,’ and ‘Waiting for the Sirens’ Call’ were among the singles. The band had reached the pinnacle of its popularity by this point. Hook, however, quit the band in 2007 due to disagreements among the members.

In 2010, he started a new band, Peter Hook and The Light, which includes his son Jack. In concerts and tours, the band primarily performs Joy Division and New Order records.

In 2010, the band embarked on a world tour, performing Joy Division’s debut album ‘Unknown Pleasures’ live and in its entirety in Italy, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia.

In 2011, Hook and the band went on another globe tour, performing ‘Closer,’ Joy Division’s second album, live in Portugal, France, Spain, Finland, and Norway. They performed throughout the year in Brazil, Canada, Israel, Greece, and Denmark.

Since 2012, the band has begun performing not only Joy Division’s but also New Order’s albums. They have traveled extensively over the world, including Belgium, Slovenia, Hungary, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, and Poland.
