Margaret LeAnn Rime Cibrian, better known by her stage name LeAnn Rimes, is an American country and pop singer, songwriter, novelist, and actor who rose to fame at the age of 14 as one of America’s youngest country music stars. Rimes began her career at an early age, taking vocal lessons at the age of five and performing locally in Texas theaters and cable television shows, but her breakthrough came with her first studio album, ‘Blue,’ for which she won two Grammy awards. She began with country music and eventually moved on to adult contemporary music, pop, and rock, with the majority of her albums combining all of these genres. Because of their comparable musical and vocal styles, she has been compared to the iconic country singer Patsy Cline; some music experts regard her work to be a legacy of Cline’s singing career. Rimes is not just a vocalist, but also a writer, having published her first novel at the age of 15 and two children’s novels. She made her acting debut in the film ‘Coyote Ugly,’ and sang the film’s soundtrack, ‘Can’t Stop the Moonlight,’ which made her a worldwide favorite and celebrity.

Childhood and Adolescence

Wilbur Rimes and Belinda Butler raised LeAnn Rimes in Jackson, Mississippi.
Since she was 18 months old, she has exhibited the ability to sing in high pitch, prompting her parents to enroll her in singing lessons.

Rimes’ family moved to Garland, Texas, when she was six years old, where she continued to learn singing and dancing and performed her first public performance. She had the opportunity to perform in a Dallas version of ‘A Christmas Carol.’

With her performance on the network television competition show Star Search, she made the decision to pursue country music. She also made several appearances on ‘Johnnie High’s Country Music Revue’ during this time.

Because of her extensive media exposure, Rimes was a seasoned professional vocalist by the age of nine. At Dallas Cowboys football games, she began performing a cappella renditions of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

She toured the country with her father, taking part in various musical ventures, and by 1991, he had started recording under the independent label ‘Nor Va Jak.’ Until 1996, she recorded three albums under it.

The Career of LeAnn

Bill Mack, a Dallas disc jockey and record promoter, helped Rimes become a household name in the United States. On her independent album ‘All That,’ named ‘Blue,’ she recorded Mack’s self-composition in 1994.

Rimes’ debut studio album, ‘Blue,’ was published in 1996, and it included a re-release of Mack’s piece ‘Blue.’ The song reached number ten on the Billboard Country Chart, and the album went on to sell four million copies in the United States.

She won two Grammys as a result of the success of ‘Blue,’ making her the youngest person to ever do so. She also took up the ‘Horizon Award’ for ‘Best New Artist Of The Year’ from the Country Music Association.

‘Unchained Melody: The Early Years’ and ‘You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs’ were released in 1997 and featured more adult contemporary music than country. ‘Holiday in Your Heart,’ her first novel, was also released.

‘Sittin’ on the Top of the World,’ Rimes’ adult contemporary and mid-tempo pop music album, was published in 1998. It debuted at number two on the Top Country Albums list and number three on the Billboard 200, boosting her popularity even further.

Rimes’ album ‘LeAnn Rimes’ debuted at number one on the Top Country Albums chart and number eight on the Billboard 200 album rankings in 1999. She also performed in the musical ‘Aida,’ singing a duet with Elton John.

In 2000, she made her Hollywood debut with the film ‘Coyote Ugly,’ for which she sang the soundtracks ‘Can’t Fight the Moonlight and ‘But I Do Love You.’ ‘Can’t Fight the Moonlight’ went on to become a cross-over pop success, and she was awarded a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for it.

In 2001, Rimes published ‘I Need You,’ a compilation album that charted at number ten on the Billboard 200. It was not a critically lauded work, but it did well commercially and sold a lot of copies over the world.

In 2002, she released ‘Twisted Angel,’ which was the first album in Rime’s career that was not produced by her father. The album was a critical flop despite reaching number three on the Top Country Albums chart.

Rimes reached 21 in 2003, and her second and first children’s novel, ‘Jag,’ was released. In the same year, she recorded the song ‘We Can’ for the sequel to ‘Legally Blonde.’ Her Greatest Hits collection was also released.

In 2004, she published ‘The Best of LeAnn Rimes,’ and teamed up with country artist Reba McEntire for a Dr. Pepper ad. Her book ‘Jag’s New Friend’ and album ‘What a Wonderful World’ were both released.

‘This Woman,’ Rimes’s fifth best-selling album, was released in 2005. The album was certified ‘Gold,’ but critical reception was mixed. She received a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Female Country Vocal Performance.’

In 2006, she published the album ‘Whatever We Wanna,’ which was intended for countries other than the United States and Canada. ‘And It Feels Like,’ a duet with Brian McFadden titled ‘Everybody’s Someone,’ and ‘Strong’ were among the album’s highlights.

Rimes published ‘Family’ in 2007––a combination of country, pop, and rock––after more than a decade in the profession. She co-wrote all of the album’s songs and was nominated for an Academy of Country Music award for her efforts.

‘Lady & Gentlemen,’ a cover album of country songs, was released in 2010 and included songs such as ‘Swingin,’ ‘Crazy Women,’ ‘Give,’ and others. Rimes herself announced the album’s release on her Twitter account.

She used Twitter to advertise the release of her studio album ‘Spitfire’ in 2013. It was first published as a digital download in the United Kingdom and Australia, and then a few months later in the United States.
