Isaac Lupien is a Canadian dancer, choreographer, and actor best known for playing Eldon in the mockumentary teen drama ‘The Next Step.’ He began his career at a young age. He appeared in a dance performance when he was only 11 months old. At the age of two, he began taking dancing lessons at his parents’ studio, albeit without great dedication! At the age of 13, he began to take things seriously and developed an interest in more technical genres such as jazz, ballet, and contemporary dance. His hobbies expanded to include tap, hip-hop, and tumbling as he grew older. He won bronze in the 2008 IDO World Championships in Riesa, Germany, and was named runner-up teen male dancer at the 2011 Dance Awards in New York City. In 2012, he earned the senior VIP award at the ‘Jump Dance Convention.’ He is now a teacher and choreographer at his parents’ studio, the ‘Canadian Dance Company,’ which is one of Canada’s most successful. He is also a part of the faculty of Trevor Tordjman’s ‘Raw Motion Dance.’ Lupien’s acting credits include the film ‘Flash of Genius,’ which also starred Greg Kinnear, in addition to the sitcom ‘The Next Step.’

The Career of Isaac

Isaac Lupien was already a well-known dancer and performance artist before landing his role on ‘The Next Step,’ having competed in and won many international dance competitions, including the senior soloist championship at the ‘Showstopper American Dance Championships in Myrtle Beach in 2013.

To mention a few, he had been in commercials for ‘Pillsbury Doughboy,’ ‘KFC,’ ‘Concerned Children,’ and ‘Hess truck.’ In the pilot episode of Deanne Bray’s criminal drama series, ‘Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye,’ he worked with her.

With the publication of ‘Flash of Genius’ in 2008, he got his first acting job. The film is a biographical tale directed by Marc Abraham, based on a 1993 ‘New Yorker article by John Seabrook about the court dispute between American inventor Robert Kearns and the ‘Ford Motor Company.’

Robert Jr., the son of Robert and Phyllis Kearns, was played by Lupien (played by Kinnear and Lauren Graham respectively).

Lupien, like the rest of the cast of ‘The Next Step,’ was a competitive dancer before becoming an actor, and while he began acting at the age of four, he quit at the age of thirteen to concentrate on his dancing.

The show began production on July 12, 2012, in Toronto, Canada, after many rounds of auditions and subsequent selections. On March 8, 2013, the pilot was broadcast on the ‘Family Channel.’

On March 7, 2014, the second season began, followed by the third on March 16, 2015, and the fourth on February 15, 2016. In March 2016, the sitcom was revived for a fifth season, which began on May 26, 2017.

Eldon, Lupien’s character on the show, has been described as a “dance nerd” by Lupien. He is a passionate and gifted dancer, possibly the finest in the studio, despite his clinginess, awkwardness, and condescending demeanor.

Lupien was one of the show’s original cast members, portraying Eldon in the main cast until season 4. Eldon is a recurrent character in Season 5.

He was in the documentary “The Next Step Live: The Movie” (2015), which was based on the cast’s first statewide tour. In the upcoming film ‘Jazz Hands,’ he plays the part of Isaiah.

Isaac Lupien was born on March 30, 1995, to Allain and Dawn Lupien in Oakville, a suburban town in southern Ontario, Canada. Dawn’s father used to work at Dawn’s mother’s music studio, ‘The Dot Blakely Dance Studio,’ in Simcoe, Ontario.

After Dot Blakely retired in 1985, the husband-and-wife team founded the ‘Canadian Dance Academy.’ Tabitha, Samantha, and Lindsay are Isaac’s three sisters.

‘Oakville Trafalgar High School’ is where he obtained his high school diploma. He is currently based in Toronto.
