American musician and singer-songwriter Adam Randal Young is the lone stalwart member of the electronic music group Owl City. After the 2009 release of the six-time platinum hit “Fireflies,” he initially gained notoriety. Adam, who is originally from Iowa, moved to Minnesota when he was a little child. He started working at a Coca-Cola shipping facility after finishing high school. He started creating melodies in his thoughts at this time and eventually built up a recording studio in his parent’s basement. Young soon started writing songs and posting them to his Myspace page. After ‘Fireflies’ became popular, Young went on to release a number of albums under the name Owl City. He is also involved in a number of other musical endeavors, such as Swimming with Dolphins, Port Blue, and Sky Sailing. Young received the 2013 Annie Award for the soundtrack in an Animated Feature Production and the 2013 ASCAP Film and Television Music Award for Top Box Office Films for the 2012 animated film “Wreck-It Ralph,” which featured his soundtrack.
Career of Adam Young
When Adam Young worked at the Coca-Cola shipping warehouse, he suffered from acute insomnia and spent the nights writing songs. As soon as his song was made available on Myspace, he started to gain fans. Owl City released their first extended play, “Of June,” in September 2007. About a year later, in March 2008, they released their debut studio album with the working title “Maybe I’m Dreaming.”
Avery and Monte Lipman, the presidents of Universal Republic, noticed Young’s music on Myspace as it gradually started to become a viral phenomenon. Young was given a contract, and Steve Bursky of Foundations Artist Management was assigned to manage him. In February 2009, the terms of Young’s deal with Universal Republic were agreed upon.
The record label first wanted Young to collaborate with well-known music producers, but after Bursky recommended that they should just let Young do what he was doing because it was working, the record label gave up on the idea. ‘Ocean Eyes’, the second album by Owl City, was made available on iTunes on July 14, 2009, and in stores on July 28. The album’s lead track, “Fireflies,” debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and held that position for two weeks.
Four additional studio albums were released by Owl City throughout the subsequent years: “All Things Bright and Beautiful” (June 2011), “The Midsummer Station” (August 2012), “Mobile Orchestra” (July 2015), and “Cinematic” (June 2018). Breanne Düren (keyboards and backup vocals), Jasper Nephew (guitar), Rob Morgan (bass guitar and music producer), Gabriel Hagan (drums), and Young make up the group’s current lineup. Daniel Jorgensen, a former member of the group, was sentenced to two years of probation in Minneapolis after entering a guilty plea to lewdness with a kid in 2017.
In 2012, Owl City released the lead single off their fourth studio album, “The Midsummer Station,” titled “Good Time.” ‘Good Time,’ a joint project with Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen, was a worldwide hit and received platinum accolades from the RIAA and the ARIA. The song helped the project win the Billboard Japan Music Awards for Hot Top Airplay of the Year and the Digital & Airplay Overseas of the Year in addition to the VEVO Certified Award for 100,000,000 Views. Many animated movies, such as “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” (2010), “The Croods” (2013), and “The Smurfs 2” (2013), have used their music.
An album called “An Airplane Carried Me to Bed” was issued by Young’s first solo endeavor, Sky Sailing. It was developed in 2007 but not released until 2010. Young published ‘The Airship’ (2007), ‘The Albatross EP’ (2008), and ‘The Pacific EP’ (2013) under his side-project Port Blue. In 2008, he and Austin Tofte co-founded the electronic music ensemble Swimming with Dolphins. In 2008, the group released an EP called “Ambient Blue,” then in 2011, it released a full album called “Water Colors.” The Atlantic, Aquarium, Dolphin Park, Apes with Guns, Keehar, The Grizzly, Windsor Airlift, and Insect Airport are just a few of the various music-related projects Young has worked on over his career.

Randal and Joan Young welcomed Adam into the world on July 5, 1986, in Ottumwa, Iowa. They just have him. Adam was raised in Owatonna, Minnesota, where the family later relocated. After graduating from Owatonna Senior High School, he was employed in a Coca-Cola shipping warehouse. He used to create music in his thoughts while working. He established a studio in his parent’s basement, where he recorded his songs and uploaded them to his Myspace page.
Young, a devoted Christian, once declared that his faith was the only thing in his life that was more significant than music. He admits to being an introvert and has stated that, while never having received an Asperger syndrome diagnosis, he thinks he exhibits some of the signs of the condition.
Young is dating Abbey Olmsted, a prominent Instagram user who specializes in photography.
