American human rights lawyer Alexi Ashe Meyers is currently associated with Sanctuary for Families, a well-known organization that offers support and advocacy to victims of sex trafficking, domestic abuse, and other forms of gender-based violence. In 2002, Ashe enrolled at Occidental College to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and government after graduating from high school. Her responsibilities there included participating in the child abuse death review panel, conducting truancy hearings in the Los Angeles Unified School District, developing curricula to discourage gang membership among middle school children, and arranging community talks at nearby police precincts. She interned as a legal intern at the Somaly Mam Foundation from April to June 2011, at which time she developed a legal guideline for attorneys who use civil action against sex traffickers.
