Individual Life

On February 22, 1995, Amos was born in Italy. He is the older son of Bocelli and Cenzatti. Matteo, his brother, was born on October 8, 1997, making him roughly 2.5 years his junior.

Raised in the family estate in Lajatico, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, was Amos’ father, Andrea Bocelli. The doctors thought he would be severely disabled, so they recommended his parents to abort. He was ultimately determined to have congenital glaucoma. He had a complete visual loss at the age of twelve due to an injury that happened during a football game. He began taking piano lessons at the age of six, but he had always been interested in music. He also picked up the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, and drums in the ensuing years. He had dreams of being an opera singer someday, inspired by performers such as Beniamino Gigli, Luciano Pavarotti, Giuseppe Di Stefano, and Franco Corelli. Nonetheless, he didn’t want to make a living as a singer at the moment, so he decided to study law after high school. He then enrolled at the University of Pisa to study law and began playing the piano in several pubs in his spare time to supplement his income. Although Bocelli received his degree in 1986, he did not start practicing law for over a year. Later, he contacted famed tenor Franco Corelli and requested that he mentor him. With great pleasure, Corelli took him on as a student, and Bocelli went back to playing piano in bars to supplement his income for the lessons.

In 1987, he got to know Amos’s mother in one of these piano bars. At the time, Enrica was seventeen. She was enamored with his voice before she was with him. On June 27, 1992, they were married. He also got the chance to collaborate with Italian rock star Zucchero Fornaciari that year, which is how he got to know Pavarotti. He has received recognition for his career with the OMRI (Order of Merit of the Italian Republic) and OMDSM (Order of Merit of Duarte, Sánchez, and Mella) awards, and he has sold 90 million recordings.

Alongside his younger brother, Amos grew up in the Tuscan vacation town of Forte dei Marmi. Despite getting divorced in 2002, their parents chose to raise their two sons together. His father started dating Veronica Berti, who happens to be his current manager, shortly after the divorce. Virginia, Amos’ half-sister, was born on March 21, 2012. On the second birthday of their daughter, Berti and Bocelli tied the knot.

At the University of Pisa, Amos pursued his studies in aerospace engineering and graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. Later, he enrolled at Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali L. Boccherini, where he earned a B.A. in piano performance.
