The lead singer of the Christian rock band “MercyMe,” Bart Millard is an American singer and composer. As a promise to his late grandmother, who was also a solo performer, he recorded and released the hymns she had taught him as a child. His two solo albums, “Hymned, No. 1” and “Hymned Again,” which are both bursting with passion and originality, are without a doubt some of the best hymn recordings ever made. The initial interest of Millard, who was born and raised in Greenville, Texas, was sports, which he planned to follow professionally. His hopes of an athletic career, however, were dashed by a sports injury, and he now sings in the school choir. He started the Christian rock band MercyMe and relocated to Oklahoma after his father’s passing. Since then, Millard has continued to create songs that the public finds appealing. The singer-songwriter has so far released a number of albums that have gone gold or platinum. The band’s songs, like “I Can Only Imagine” and “Spoken For,” are still enthusiastically listened to today. He was named “Best Male Vocalist” by Christianity Today in 2005. In terms of his personal life, he is a contentedly married father of five.

Music Career of Bart Millard

When Bart Millard’s father passed away during the first year of his college degree, his band career began. He began playing in the praise band for a local church’s youth group. After traveling to Switzerland with the band, he made the decision to dedicate his life to music. Soon after, Millard and his friend Mike Scheuchzer relocated to Oklahoma to join forces with James Bryson to establish the band MercyMe. Later, the band added bassist Nathan Cochran and drummer Robby Shaffer.

Before joining INO Records in 2001, the group worked on a number of independent projects. They published their first significant debut album with the song, titled “Almost There.” The album eventually received a double platinum certification after the single “I Can Only Imagine” topped the Billboard 200 sales chart for seven weeks. The singles “Word of God Speak” and “Spoken For” were later included on MercyMe’s second album, “Spoken For.” The RIAA later awarded the album itself a gold certification.

Barry Graul, a guitarist, joined the group in 2003 and contributed to the creation of the group’s third studio album, “Undone.” Three popular singles from this album, “Homesick,” “Here With Me,” and “In the Blink of an Eye,” were produced. The live video CD “MercyMe Live” by MercyMe was released a year later and went on to receive platinum certification. This was followed by the recording of their album “The Christmas Sessions,” which was released in September 2005. The following album by the group was titled “Coming Up to Breathe.” Three radio singles—”Hold Fast,” “So Long Self,” and “Bring the Rain”—were released from this successful album, with “Hold Fast” and “So Long Self” becoming two of the songs that had the greatest success.

‘All That Is Within Me’ was published by Millard and his band on November 20, 2007. The singles “You Reign,” “God With Us,” and “Finally Home” became hits, and the album earned gold status. Soon later, the group issued ‘Coming Up to Breathe: Acoustic,’ an acoustic version of their album ‘Coming Up to Breathe. They published their first greatest hits collection, named “10,” a double CD with 15 studio tracks, in April 2009.

The Generous Mr. Lovewell, MercyMe’s sixth studio album, was released on May 4, 2010, and it was their next offering. Three popular songs from this album, including “Move,” “Beautiful,” and “All of Creation,” all reached the top of the Christian Songs chart. Following this, Millard and his band created the worship album “The Worship Sessions,” which was only available at Family Christian Book Stores.
They made their ‘The Hurt & The Healer’ CD available through Columbia Records in May 2012. Following this, MercyMe’s eighth album, “Welcome to the New,” was released in April 2014. Their eighth studio album, ‘Lifer,’ came after that. “Even If,” the album’s main track, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Christian Songs chart.

Solo Career of Bart Millard

In addition to his work with MercyMe, Millard performs solo. He grew up listening to his grandmother sing hymns, and he made a vow to her that one day he would compile these hymns into an album. ‘Hymned, No. 1’, an album by Millard that featured all his favorite hymns from his youth, served as the beginning of his solo career.

The song “Jesus Cares for Me,” written by Thad Cockrell, was then included on his subsequent album, “Hymned Again,” which was released in 2008. While “Hymned, No. 1” was an attempt to make the songs Millard did not care for particularly appealing, the second album was created primarily in recognition of the wishes of his three children who had been so taken with their father’s previous record that they had yearned for more. Both albums were well received, especially the first one. Even the well-known publication ‘Christianity Today’ gave it a five-star rating, praising it as “one of the most varied and enjoyable hymns albums ever recorded.”
