Carlos Tevez, better known as “El Apache,” is a forward for Boca Juniors and the Argentine national team. He is a professional football player from Argentina. He has previously played for the clubs Corinthians of Brazil’s Série A, West Ham United, Manchester United, and Manchester City of Europe’s Premier League, Juventus of Italy’s Serie A, and Shanghai Shenhua of China’s Super League. This is his third stint with the club. The only thing competing for more attention than his on-field display as a prolific goal scorer with tremendous energy and technique is the string of controversies he has courted throughout the course of his career. His moves between clubs, the fact that his rights were sometimes held by a third party, and his sporadic unprofessional actions sparked most of the controversy. His numerous accomplishments nevertheless include helping Manchester City win the league title after 44 years, winning the ‘Golden Boot’ for Argentina at the 2004 Olympics, the Copa Libertadores, and the Intercontinental Cup for Boca Juniors. He also helped West Ham United avoid relegation and won two Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League for Manchester United.

Early Childhood & Life

Juan Alberto Cabral and Fabiana “Trina” Martnez welcomed Carlos Alberto Martnez into the world on February 5, 1984, in Ciudadela, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Seguin Raimundo Tévez, whose surname he had chosen during a dispute between his junior club, All Boys, and Boca Juniors, and his maternal aunt Adriana Noem Martnez and her husband adopted him, though.

Carlos’s League Career

At the age of 16, Carlos Tevez made his Boca Juniors debut against Talleres de Córdoba on October 21, 2001, launching his professional club career. Later, in 2003 and 2004, he assisted his team in winning the Copa Libertadores, the Intercontinental Cup, the Torneo Apertura of the Argentine Primera División, and the Copa Sudamericana.

At Boca, he became known as a potential Diego Maradona replacement and received his No. 10 jersey. He did, however, switch to Brazilian Série. Corinthians, a team, signed a record contract in 2005 and helped the group win the Campeonato Brasileiro. He was the first non-Brazilian to win the best player since 1976.

He joined Corinthians on a five-year contract, but in 2006 he switched to West Ham United. After going scoreless in a string of defeats and draws, he scored the lone goal against Manchester United in the last league game to keep West Ham from being relegated.

His two-year loan at Manchester United was approved on August 10, 2007, following an unpleasant transfer saga. On August 15, he made his club debut against Portsmouth. He stayed for two years, during which time the team won the 2008 FA Community Shield, FIFA Club World Cup, 2007-08 UEFA Champions League, two Premier League championships, and the 2008-09 Football League Cup.

He was given a permanent five-year contract by Manchester United, however, on July 14, 2009, he switched to United’s crosstown rival, Manchester City. In December 2009, he received the title of “Premier League Player of the Month” for the first time. In 2010, he was a key player in the club’s FA Cup run, which resulted in the club’s win in the championship game.

After Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini asserted that he declined to play as a substitute against Bayern Munich on September 27, 2011, he once more attracted media attention. He received harsh criticism from commentators and the media, a two-week suspension, fines equal to many weeks’ earnings, and a denial of a loyalty bonus, but on March 21, 2012, he made his first team debut against Chelsea.

He assisted Manchester City in capturing their first league crown in 44 years, and as a result, he became the first Premier League player to reach 50 goals for the team. In a 3-2 victory over Chelsea on August 12, 2012, he scored a goal that assisted Manchester City in capturing the FA Community Shield.

On June 26, 2013, he agreed to a three-year contract with Juventus. He was given the renowned No. 10 jersey, which he deserved by finishing the season as the league’s leading scorer with 21 goals and taking home the Scudetto. He played for the club for two seasons, during which time his team won the Serie A twice, the Supercoppa Italiana in 2013, the Coppa Italia in 2014–15, and advanced to the 2015 Champions League final.

His objective was to win the Argentine Primera División when he returned to his original team, Boca Juniors, in June 2015. By the end of the season, he had accomplished this goal along with winning the Copa Argentina. In addition to being named the “Serie A Footballer of the Year” for the 2014–15 season, he became the first football player to win both the domestic league and cup double in the same year.

Despite his denials, he became the highest-paid player in the world in December 2016 when he signed with Shanghai Shenhua of the Chinese Super League for a reported $41 million salary. He was criticized for being out of shape despite having four goals from 16 games. As a result, he called his time with the team “vacation” and went back to Boca in January 2018.

He joined the senior national squad for the 2004 Copa América, which they lost to Brazil in the final, and the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup final, which they also lost to Brazil.

He competed for his country in the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups and was a member of the 2007 Copa América finalist squad. After missing a penalty shootout against Uruguay at the 2011 Copa América, he was dropped from the national squad for three years, although he was recalled for friendlies against Portugal and Croatia in 2014. He assisted in getting his group to the 2015 Copa América final, where they were defeated by Chilean hosts.
