Livingston Allen is a Jamaican-American entertainment blogger, DJ, TV host, and YouTuber who goes by the stage names DJ Akademiks and The Negrotiator. He mostly publishes satirical news from the hip-hop business. Along with artist Joe Budden, he co-hosts the morning program “Everyday Struggle” and moderates an episode of the television documentary series “Complex Conversations.” In order to support his blog, he started the entertainment news website “Late Night Creep” and launched the “LateNightCreepVids” channel on YouTube in October 2012. Since then, he has started a number of YouTube channels, such as “King Akademiks,” a gaming channel, and “The War In Chiraq,” a channel that discusses the violence in Chicago. Across all of his channels, he has roughly 3 million subscribers, and he also has 1.9 million Instagram followers. In September 2018, his Twitter account was hacked, and as a result, he was linked to the rapper Tekashi69’s firearm and racketeering case through a series of contentious posts.
Ascent to Fame
When DJ Akademiks was still in school, he started blogging on rap forums. DJ Akademiks had become a hip-hop artist to help him deal with the cultural shock of relocating from Jamaica to the United States. He tried his hand at music production after enrolling at Rutgers University, but the endeavor was not very successful because of inadequate networking. At this point, he started working as a Saturday night DJ for his campus station, which helped him gain confidence. Due to his popularity, he started receiving requests to DJ at neighborhood get-togethers and barbecues. He frequently posted images and videos from these events on social media. He was able to receive proposals from all around the state of New Jersey as a result of this exposure on the internet.
After two years of continuing to DJ for radio stations and parties, he made the decision to start his own website, “Late Night Creep,” where he would cover the most recent hip-hop industry news. He transformed the website into a fully functional hip-hop blog with massive traffic in less than a year. His coverage of themes expanded as his website gained popularity, and he started sharing his personal opinions and discussing high-profile feuds. He started the
‘LateNightCreepVids’ YouTube channel in October 2012 with the intention of posting satirical news films on entertainment, covering hip-hop in-depth and with passion. He quickly uploaded interviews with well-known figures in entertainment news, like as Charlamagne tha God and Ms. Drama. But after he posted more than 600 videos of himself documenting an incident at the 2015 Summer Jam Fest Jersey that resulted in 61 arrests, his fame took off. Fans regard his channel as one of the most dependable and constant places to get hip-hop news.
Disputes and Scandals DJ Akademiks
After a competing hip-hop blog, hiphopoverload.com, reported in late November 2018 that DJ Akademiks is the confidential informant assisting federal agents in their racketeering case against rapper Tekashi69, the DJ found himself embroiled in a major controversy. An item on the blog stated that, according to the attorney of Tekashi’s former manager, Kifano Jordan, also known as Shotti, Akademiks was the snitch. It also referred to him as the “fake BFF” who turned informant in order to escape facing federal charges of obstruction of justice, which carried a minimum five-year jail sentence.
In an exclusive interview with “TMZ,” Akademiks asserted his innocence in the case in the wake of the accusations, saying that he had “never been questioned or much less cooperated in this” and that he thought the accused were “good people.” A statement by Shotti’s attorney Scott Leemon, which was also released by “TMZ,” was clearly devoid of any interview addressing the case in which someone was implicated. In spite of this, he was unable to avoid criticism on the internet since a lot of people were accusing him of publishing things on his blog and YouTube channel that would implicate the defendant. The fact that he frequently posted strange content on Instagram and mentioned people in Twitch streams did not help either.
