Early Youth & Life

Robert James Reid, the son of Robert Malcolm Reid and Marcela Calicdan, was born James Reid on May 11, 1993, in Sydney, Australia. His mother is Philippine, and his father is Australian. James had three sisters and four brothers when he was growing up. James’ interest in music as a child stemmed from his mother’s previous career as a part-time singer. He began learning music very early in life, which helped him develop into a competent performer before he achieved fame.

However, there were problems in the home. When his parents divorced when he was only 2 years old, he remained in Australia and spent his early years in Mosman, on Sydney’s North Shore. James’s father decided to relocate to the Philippines when he was 15 years old because he felt the need to. James first felt the need to pursue a career in showbiz in this Asian nation.

To put it mildly, his early years in the Philippines were challenging. He was not fluent in the local tongue, and few individuals there spoke English. Additionally, he had a lot of difficulties adjusting to the significant shift in his academic and social routine. James was very active in swimming and acrobatics in Australia. However, as soon as he arrived in the Philippines, both of these interests started to wane.

He initially enrolled in the “Makati Science High School,” but after a few months, he realized he couldn’t stay. Then, his father enrolled him in Karabar High School Distance Education Center, an Australian educational system that offered remote learning, in Karabar, New South Wales, Australia.

Career of James Reid

He was identified as one of the “teenternational” inmates on “Pinoy Big Brother” in April 2010. He was about to turn 17 at the time, and his housemates honored his birthday inside the home. Because he was the only housemate with Filipino DNA in his veins, he continued to be a contentious member of the cast. This led to numerous plots to have him kicked out of the home.

He reported chest discomfort and breathlessness in May 2010, and the hospital was contacted right away. In June, this occurred once more. Both times it appeared that his days in the home were numbered. The first time, he only experienced a slight chest discomfort without any major issues. The second time, though, it was much worse because a hole was discovered in his organs. He was advised to leave the house and asked to don an oxygen tube for a while, but he insisted on remaining.

Both of these occurrences contributed to his popularity among his competitors and his followers. With nearly 20% of the total ballots cast in his favor, he ultimately emerged as the show’s victor. He received several awards, including a sizable monetary sum and a gift to a charitable organization in his honor.

Soon, he became a local celebrity, with a significant fan following in Australia. He understood that now was the ideal moment to begin a career in music, a field that had fascinated him since he was a young child. He published his first EP, “We Are Whatever,” and worked with Bret Jackson. Four original tracks and several covers of well-known songs were included on the album.

His popularity from the reality show allowed him to perform on programs like “Pintada,” “Good Vibes,” and “Maynila.” With the short feature “On Thin Ice,” he made his film debut in 2011. ‘Diary ng Panget,’ a 2014 adolescent romantic comedy, served as his feature film debut. It received negative reviews but did well at the ticket office.

James announced in June 2014 that he would be appearing in the movie “Talk Back and You’re Dead.” The romantic drama, which was based on the same-titled book, ended up being yet another movie office hit. James wound up contributing his voice to the movie’s official soundtrack, just like his previous film.

He made appearances in the movies “Beauty and the Bestie” and “Para sa Hopeless Romance” in 2015. The latter was both critically and commercially effective, while the former was a critical success but a box office failure. James made a release date announcement for his second studio record that same year. The album “Reid Alert” was widely acclaimed both critically and commercially after its debut. It had six singles, and the “Philippine Association of the Record Industry” ultimately awarded it “platinum” status (PARI).

The album was published on Valentine’s Day and entered the “Philippine iTunes” chart at number two. One of the most popular albums of the year, the singles from the album went viral on “YouTube” thanks in large part to those recordings.

He and his girlfriend Nadine Lustre co-starred in the 2016 movie “This Time” in a prominent position. The formal box office totals for the movie were never disclosed, but it was assumed that they exceeded 100 million PHP.

James and Nadine revealed in June 2016 that they would return to television in the upcoming season of “Till I Met You.” In March 2017, James announced that his third studio record, “Palm Dreams,” would be released. The nine-track record was well-received locally. In late 2018, James is slated to make an appearance in a superhero movie based on the Philippine comic book character “Pedro Penduko.”
