Jason Heath Sehorn is a former American football cornerback who played in the NFL for the New York Giants and the St. Louis Rams. Before his professional career, he played high school football at Mount Shasta High School and then college football for two years at Shasta College, followed by two years at the University of Southern California (USC). The Giants drafted him in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft, and he spent most of his career as a cornerback for them. After his release in early 2003, he briefly played safety for the Rams until his contract was terminated before the 2004 season due to failing a physical exam. Sehorn’s NFL stats include 458 tackles, 19 interceptions, and 5 touchdowns. Today, he works as the director of communications for the US automotive retailer Sonic Automotive and as a college football analyst for ESPNU.

Early Career & College

Sehorn’s athletic career began at Mount Shasta High School, where he played football for one year. The school later honored him by retiring his number 1 jersey on January 19, 1999. After high school, he played a year of amateur baseball and was signed by the Chicago Cubs as an outfielder. However, his professional baseball career was short-lived, as he batted only .184 for the rookie league Huntington Cubs in 1990.

He shifted his focus to football, excelling as a wide receiver and returner for two years at Shasta College. He then transferred to the University of Southern California (USC), where he played safety for two seasons due to the depth of talent at the wide receiver position.

Jason Sehorn: NFL Highlights

The New York Giants selected Sehorn in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft, where he spent most of his professional career as a cornerback. He had extreme seasons in 1996 and 1997. However, his momentum was halted by a severe knee injury (tearing his ACL and MCL) during a 1998 preseason game against the New York Jets. Although he returned the following year, he struggled to regain his former speed. The Giants released him in March 2003.

He then signed with the St. Louis Rams in May 2003, transitioning to the safety position. His time with the Rams was plagued by injury, as a broken foot sidelined him for the first six games of the season. His contract was ultimately terminated before the 2004 season after he failed a physical exam.

Other Ventures and Current Roles

Beyond football, Sehorn won the all-around athletic competition Superstars three consecutive times from 1998 to 2000. He also tried acting, appearing in television dramas such as Third Watch and Women’s Murder Club, and doing commercials for the men’s underwear company 2(x)ist. Post-NFL, he joined Fox Sports Net as a pregame panelist in 2005. Currently, Sehorn works as a college football analyst for ESPNU and serves as the director of communications for Sonic Automotive.
