Jess Margera’s Career

In 1991, Jess Margera began performing with various bands, including “Soalroach,” which also included his brother Bam and a buddy named Ryan Dunn. With his friend Deron Miller, who would later go on to become the lead guitarist and vocalist of “Camp Kill Yourself,” he then created the band “Foreign Objects.” Five songs on the band’s debut EP, “The Undiscovered Numbers & Colors,” composed entirely by Deron Miller, were published in 1995.

In a later collaboration with guitarist and vocalist Chad I. Ginsburg, the duo chose the name “Camp Kill Yourself” (also known as CKY) for the group. In addition to playing drums for the group, Jess also contributed music to one of its 2002 albums, “Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild.” The comedic group “Gnarkill,” which included his brother Bam on keyboards, Rich Vose on guitar, and Brandon DiCamillo on vocals, also welcomed Jess as a member the same year. ‘Gnarkill’ was released in 2002, while ‘GnarKill vs. Unkle Matt and the ShitBirdz’ was released in 2006.

While ‘Camp Kill Yourself’ was still active, Jess hung around with other bands and worked with them on a number of recordings. He participated in the 2007 studio albums “Chapter Two” and “Blackened Sunrise” by Viking Skull. He also contributed to the band’s two additional recordings, “Cursed By the Sword” and “Doom, Gloom, Heartache & Whiskey.”

The Company Band, a supergroup featuring James Rota of “Fireball Ministry” and Neil Fallon of “Clutch,” was founded by Jess Margera in 2007. The band officially formed once Dave Bone and Jason Diamond were added, and in 2007 they issued their debut EP, “Sign Here, Here, and Here.” ‘The Company Band’ and ‘Pros & Cons’, two further EPs that the group recorded in 2009 and 2012, respectively, are also available.

The band encountered several issues with the 2009 publication of their fourth studio album, Carver City, and each member began to worry about the band’s future. Guitarist Ginsburg was more interested in releasing solo music than the other band members were in continuing to record. Ginsburg abruptly departed the band for private reasons (which were reportedly related to his drinking issues), but he eventually came back. The group’s most recent album, named “The Phoenix,” was published in 2017.
