American rapper Joseph Guillermo Jones II is well-known for both his solo work and for being a part of the hip-hop trio The Diplomats / Dipset. By his stage name, Jim Jones (formerly Jimmy Jones), he enjoys greater popularity. He has worked as a music director under the alias CAPO and is one of Diplomat Records’ co-CEOs. Jones, who was primarily reared by his grandmother as a child, had a difficult upbringing. He was expelled from his school as a result of a theft from a nearby store. He went to school with Cam’ron and Freekey Zekey, the other two founding members of The Diplomats. In 2003, they issued their debut record, “Diplomatic Immunity.” The next year saw the release of their second and final album to date. Six mixtapes and a number of songs have also been released by them. Jones’ solo career began in 2004 with the release of his first album, “On My Way to Church.” Since then, he has put out a total of six additional studio albums. Additionally, he has made appearances in movies and TV shows. He has a contract with the record company Roc Nation right now.
Early Childhood & Life
Jim Jones was one of the three children of Nancy Jones and Joseph Guillermo Jones I when he was born on July 15, 1976, in the Bronx neighborhood of New York City. While his late father was Puerto Rican, his mother is from Aruba.
Precious and Keisha are his sisters. His grandma looked after him while he spent the majority of his childhood in Harlem. He enrolled in a nearby Catholic school and frequently missed mass in order to laze around and take the day off at the nearby train station.
He talked about what it was like to grow up with fellow rapper Freekey Zekey in “Jim Jones’ The Come Up DVD, Vol. 19”. He recalled how he frequently lingered outside a shop next to the church he attended, went inside, spoke with the proprietor, and then stole all the cash from the register and the candy after the owner left. Later, he sold the sweets at the school. Eventually, the school learned and expelled him.
Jones was introduced to the hip-hop culture very early in his life. He first met Dame Dash, one of the eventual co-founders of Roc-A-Fella Records alongside Kareem “Biggs” Burke and Jay-Z, when he was six years old. Jones met Cameron Giles, often known as Cam’ron, when he was just 13 years old. Cam’ron would have a big impact on Jones’ future as a musician.
THE DICRATES
The Diplomats, who were founded in 1997, debuted commercially in 2000 with the release of Cam’ron’s album “S.D.E.” Later, Cam’ron joined Roc-A-Fella Records and had his third album, “Come Home with Me,” published on their label. Oh Boy and Hey Ma, the album’s lead singles, both received platinum certification for their success. The title track and the song “Dead or Alive” both included Jones.
The group released their debut single, “Diplomatic Immunity,” in March 2003. ‘Dipset Anthem,’ ‘I Really Mean It,’ ‘Ground Zero,’ and ‘Bout It Bout It…Part III’ (with Master P) are among the 27 songs on the album. The RIAA awarded it gold certification for its moderate success. It was recognized by Complex in 2012 as one of the best albums of the previous ten years.
A year later, in November 2004, the group’s second album, “Diplomatic Immunity 2,” was made available through Koch Records. It has 17 songs and peaked at number three on the Billboard US Independent Albums chart and number eight on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
In 2007, the group started to experience a number of internal issues, and soon there were rumors that it would break apart. Juelz Santana, who had joined the group in 1999, and Jones performed at a 50 Cent performance, which fueled the rumors further because Cam’ron and 50 Cent were at odds at the time. They did not, however, rule out other partnerships.
Besides the two studio albums, The Diplomats has put out five compilation albums: ‘More Than Music, Vol. 1’ (2005), ‘Cam’ron Presents Dukedagod Dipset: Movement Moves’ (2006), ‘Dipset: More Than Music, Vol. 2’ (2006), ‘Dipset Mania: Special Edition’ (2011), and ‘Dipset Mania: Back to Business, Vol. 2’ (2013) and five volumes of Diplomats mixtapes, released between 2002 and 2005.
By September 2008, every member of the group had split off and started their own organizations. Jones founded ByrdGang alongside Chink, Juelz, and NOE. In July 2008, they released their self-titled debut album. It sold about 65,000 copies and rose to the 29th position on the Billboard 200.
Jones and Cam’ron declared the end of their conflict in April 2010. In June 2010, they released a brand-new song called “Salute.” However, the group kept running into issues, thus the idea to produce a new album was repeatedly put off.
The group’s founding members reunited in May 2014 to record a new song titled “Dipshits.” In July 2015, they finally made available their first mixtape in ten years, named “American Dream.”
The group declared in 2017 that they intended to release a new EP together with a documentary. They joined forces to give a one-night-only concert at the Manhattan Center on November 22, 2017.
Juelz Santana was detained by law enforcement in March 2018 at the Newark Liberty International Airport for having a gun in his hands. After that, Cam’ron declared on Instagram that he, Jones, and Freekey Zeekey would continue touring without Santana, but that he will return home soon.
