Childhood and Adolescence

Jordan Michael Houston, better known as Juicy J, was born on April 5, 1975, in Tennessee, United States. He had been a music fan since he was a child in his hometown, but his family couldn’t afford musical instruments, so he practiced drumming on empty oatmeal jars.

His grandfather had a piano, but he wouldn’t let J use it, so Juicy got his first Casio, which marked the start of a lifetime of musical production.

Juicy obtained a four-track recording system from one of his high school lecturers in order to start making music professionally and began making music without any prior training.

The Career of Juicy

His official music-producing career began in the early 1990s when he and his music partner DJ Paul met and discovered that they had similar musical tastes.

They began composing music, and their beats were both foot-stomping and occasionally too gloomy to be classified as hip hop. They advertised themselves in some way and recruited local rappers to rap on their beats in their hometown of Memphis.

The recordings that resulted were ultimately turned into music records, resulting in the formation of Triple 6 Mafia.
Their early recordings were mostly terrible, but some of them were so outstanding that they eventually found a place in the group’s albums after a little reworking.

The group renamed themselves Three 6 Mafia and began working on their debut album, ‘Mystic Stylz,’ which was largely a collaborative effort between various local non-professional rappers.

The album contained some really dark music, yet it sounded very different from what most teenagers were listening to at the time.

The CD was highly received by Memphis’ underground culture, and Hypnotized Mind Imprints agreed to distribute it. The album was already rocking local nightclubs and discotheques, and the duo was gaining in popularity.

As a result of the increased confidence, DJ Paul and Juicy released many albums under the Hypnotized Mind label over the next few years, both collaborative and solo.

The band continued to make music, and their influence could no longer be ignored, as they entered the mainstream American music industry in 2000 with their album “When The Smoke Clears,” which peaked at number six on Billboard’s album chart.

After the group’s massive success, Paul and Juicy decided to leave and pursue individual careers. In 2002, Juicy released his first solo album, ‘Chronicles of the Juice Man: Underground Album.’

After the success of his debut album, he released his second in 2009, titled ‘Hustle Till I Die,’ which included Gorilla Joe, Gucci Mane, and Webbie.

His third solo album, ‘Stay Trippy,’ was released in 2013 under the Sony-owned record label Kemosabe Records and debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 rankings.

Juicy established himself as one of the most notable southern rappers working in the American music industry with his fourth and most recent album, ‘Rubba Band Business,’ which was also a major hit.

Juicy received the Academy Award for Best Original Song for the song ‘It Hard Out Here for a Pimp,’ which was a collective effort between him, DJ Paul, Frayser Boy, and Crunchy Black, and which he still believes to be the most significant achievement of his long and successful career.

Following his departure from Three 6 Mafia, Juicy collaborated on many mixtapes with Wiz Khalifa, then Juicy released his solo mixtape named “Blue Dream and Lean.”

Juicy appeared in a song called ‘Dark Horse’ on Katy Perry’s fourth studio album, ‘Prism,’ and in mid-2014, he released a single called ‘Low’ in collaboration with Nicki Minaj, Young Thug, and Lil Bibby, and later in 2015, he collaborated with Wiz Khalifa and R. City for the single ‘For Everybody,’ which became a mega-hit on social media and among critics.

The song he wrote with Katy Perry, “Dark Horse,” was nominated for two World Music Awards, won for best song and the other for best video. He has also been nominated for Grammys and BET Hip Hop Awards.

Juicy’s Personal Experiences
