Career of Julian Martel

When Julian Martel created his YouTube account on December 29, 2014, his career as a musician and performer really got going. At the time, he was only 14 years old. He posted a version of Ed Sheeran’s song “Thinking Out Loud” as his first video to the website. He also performed renditions of “Shut Up and Dance” by “Walk the Moon,” “Pillowtalk” by Zayn, “Night Changes,” “Drag Me Down,” and “If I Could Fly” by One Direction in the following months.

In May 2015, the boy band “Level X,” of whom he was a brief member, performed a cover of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful.” Martel also sang a rendition of Jacob Whitesides’ song “Words.” Jacob was so impressed by Martel’s performance that, against his request, he posted the song’s YouTube link!

Four days after Martel turned 15, the third season of “The Voice Kids Germany” debuted on February 27, 2015. Although he was one of the contenders, he finally was unable to advance to the final stages. The winning team that season was Lena Meyer-Landrut, with Noah-Levi Korth as the captain.

Sean Cavaliere, Jaden Bojsen, Devin Dressman, Dylan Rey, and Felix Biernat founded New District in November 2015. However, due to visa complications, Biernat, a German as well, was unable to relocate to the US. Martel thus took his place in 2016. The group, who was signed to Isana Records, covered Shawn Mendes’ “Stitches” for their debut music video.

The song “Ain’t Got Money,” which Martel made as the group’s first recording, was released. The song, which debuted on August 19, 2016, has received over six million YouTube views. For the 2017 edition of Teen Choice Awards, they were nominated for “Choice Music: Next Big Thing.”

He and the other members of New District split up sometime in 2017, and since then, Martel has been focusing on his solo career. Two of his original singles have been released thus far: “Get Over It” in November 2017 and “Goodbye” in January 2018.
