Popular American rapper K Camp is from Georgia and is connected to the label “Interscope Records.” The camp began daydreaming about a future in music after learning about his family’s passion for it. In high school, he joined the “Head Busser Clique” group (HBC.) HBC quickly disintegrated after that, like many other high-school musical ensembles. Camp then began giving performances at open-mic events. His first mixtape, “All Night,” which he published in 2009, gained some sway in the Georgia music scene but fell short of attracting a larger audience. Early Childhood & Life
K On April 27, 1990, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Camp was born Kristopher Campbell to African-American parents. His family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, not long after he was born, where the rap music scene was booming and new artists were breaking out of the state and ascending to national notoriety. Because of how much his family enjoyed music, Camp became very interested in it. He had a lifelong fascination with music.
When he was in high school, Camp joined the band “HBC.” The group quickly rose to fame because of its focus on gangsta rap. Camp believed the band lacked genuine love for music, though. He believed that while his friends only wanted to become famous and attract girls with their music, he wanted to accomplish much more.
Soon after, he disbanded the group and made friends with Dave from his school. In Dave’s home, there was a music studio set up. Soon, Camp and Dave began composing music. They later created CDs and started rapping at open mic nights, but none of this brought them any notoriety.
Camp detested the idea of going to college, despite his mother’s encouragement. He enrolled in college but left after two months. Camp started working at a nearby theater to help pay his bills. He visited studios and recorded music in the interim. But by that point, he had all but given up on pursuing a career in music because he was failing miserably.
He began to put in more effort and began spending nights at his friend’s recording studio working on his music. After several weeks, he finally produced the song “Up All Night,” which turned out to be a ray of brightness in the otherwise terrible situation.
K Camp’s Career
The song “Up All Night” gave Camp some notoriety in the Georgia nightclub scene. He promoted the CD while working nonstop. He performed at open mic events while holding down a day job, gradually attracting a lot of attention. After hearing his music, one of the top specialists in the field agreed to manage him. He also happened to be a well-known club promoter who gave Camp a bigger stage and let him show off his abilities.
Despite numerous tries, the song was unable to break outside of the Georgia music scene since the management he hired was unfamiliar with the industry. Camp then sacked his manager and hired his mother to take over as his working manager. He made this decision so that he could function more autonomously. Camp’s mother and they gave up their day jobs. Camp set up a studio in the home and focused solely on making music.
When Camp penned and performed the hook for Mykko Montana’s song “Do It” in 2012, he shot to obscurity. Mykko, though, escaped with all the fame. Camp had a strong and memorable hook, but the road to success seemed to take him longer. He made a brief appearance in the music video as well.
Later, he joined forces with producer Big Fruit and the two of them jointly recorded a number of tracks. He continued to have little success. He contacted his pal Kwony Cash, who had previously collaborated with Rich Homie Quan.
Together, Kwony and Camp finished “Money Baby,” which became a hit in Georgia. The song passed through a number of music producers and DJs before landing with DJ Ace. The song quickly got popular on YouTube.
Camp gradually started to come out of the shadows and gathered a devoted local following. More of his singles were successful, including “Slumlords.” After repeated attempts to get his music heard outside of Georgia, Camp was able to meet with “Interscope Records” in 2014, and a deal was later signed.
Camp’s debut EP, “In Due Time,” was ultimately made available on a much broader scale in April 2014. The EP’s single “Cut Her Off,” which was produced by Will-A-Fool and featured renowned industry veteran 2 Chainz, was released.
The song made it into the top 5 hits on the “Hot Rap Songs Chart” and peaked at the 49th position on the “Billboard Hot 100.” In May 2014, the song’s music video was published on “YouTube,” where it immediately gained popularity. The song received a nomination for the 2014 “BET Hip-Hop Awards” “Best Club Banger” category.
Later on, the song was named the number-one hit on the “USA Today Urban Airplay Chart.” Later, top rappers Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, and YG remixed it. Five of Camp’s songs scored top marks in the 2014 Billboard Twitter Real-Time survey.
The camp was a member of “XXL” magazine’s “2015 Freshman Class.” Camp’s first studio album, “Only Way Is Up,” was published in September 2015 and debuted on the Billboard 200 list at position 20. The record, which included musicians like Snoop Dogg, Jeremih, and T.I., sold 11,000 copies in its first week of availability. Akon and 50 Cent later remixed “Comfortable,” one of the album’s singles.
“Only Way Is Up” was named one of the “50 Best Hip-Hop Albums” of 2015 by the well-known American music publication “Spin.” After it became popular, Camp resumed recording mixtapes and released “You Welcome,” “K.I.S.S. 3,” and “SlumLords 2.” Camp is allegedly now working on his second studio album, titled “Selling Blow.”
