Kaiane Aldorino Lopez is a Gibraltar beauty queen, dancer, and politician. She was crowned Miss World in 2009 and currently serves as the mayor of Gibraltar. This stunning diva is a gifted dancer who began her career at the age of 14. She has performed in Gibraltar and Spain, and was a member of the Gibraltar National Dance Team at the World Dance Championships in Germany. Childhood and Adolescence

Kaiane Aldorino Lopez was born in Gibraltar on July 8, 1986. Except for the fact that she began dancing at a young age, there is little knowledge about this exquisite beauty’s family, early life, and youth. She joined the Urban Dance Group as a dancer when she was 14 years old and performed throughout Gibraltar and Spain.

She received instruction in the styles of contemporary, modern, commercial, and hip-hop dance. In 2008, she represented Gibraltar as part of the Gibraltar National Dance Team in the Formation category at the International Dance Organization World Showdance Championships in Riesa, Germany.

Gibraltar made history that year by finishing 17th in the Formation category after clearing the first round for the first time.Kaiane is a fitness enthusiast who enjoys playing netball and working out at the gym. She, like the majority of Gibraltarians, speaks both English and Spanish.

Career & Life Style

She worked as a human resources clerk at St Bernard’s Hospital in Gibraltar for five years before winning Miss Gibraltar 2009. On June 27, she competed in Gibraltar’s national beauty contest, Miss Gibraltar 2009, held at the Alameda Open Air Theatre. She won the national title after defeating Krystle Robba, and went on to represent Gibraltar at the Miss World pageant.

Kaiane prepared for the 59th Miss World pageant, Miss World 2009, after winning her national title. On December 12, the pageant was hosted at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Miss World 2009 pageant had its largest turnout ever, with 112 competitors from all over the world, including Kaiane, competing for the title.

She won the Miss World Beach Beauty title and advanced to the semi-finals of the Miss World 2009 pageant, making her the first Gibraltarian contender to do so in the event’s history. Kaiane was the one who finally won the championship, which had previously been held by Ksenia Sukhinova of Russia.

She was the first Gibraltarian to win the Miss World pageant. Gibraltar was ecstatic as the historic occasion was broadcast live on television, with residents waving the Gibraltar flag, letting off fireworks, and rejoicing like never before.

“Wonderful achievement for her and for Gibraltar,” said Peter Caruana, the Chief Minister of Gibraltar at the time. He also stated that she will be greeted with a “royal welcome.”On December 15, 2009, the Gibraltar government announced that she would be transferred from London to Gibraltar on a private plane.

Meanwhile, on December 16, the administration released a press statement explaining the events that would occur following her arrival. It also asked businesses to close between 4 and 6 p.m. on December 17, 2009, if at all feasible, so that their employees could join in and witness such a wonderful and historic event.

She was greeted by the crowd as she arrived at the Gibraltar Airport on December 17, 2009, and then paraded through the main street with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment’s band leading the way. She then sat in an open-top automobile that Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales had used on their honeymoon in Gibraltar.

She then graced the City Hall balcony before holding a press conference. On the same day, a reception was hosted at the Rock Hotel. The day’s celebrations were capped off by a fireworks show from Gibraltar Harbour, albeit the feeling of joy lingered for quite some time.

To commemorate her feat, the ‘Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau’ produced a special sheet of stamps. During her time as Miss World 2009, she visited over 40 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, South Africa, Spain, China, Italy, Japan, Korea, and Gibraltar.

She was a guest judge at Mister World 2010, the sixth edition of the Mister World male pageant, which was held in Incheon, South Korea.On July 7, 2011, the Gibraltar Parliament unanimously awarded her the Gibraltar Medallion of Honour and the Freedom of the City of Gibraltar.

In March 2014, she was appointed as the deputy to the then Mayor of Gibraltar, Adolfo Canepa, after a motion by the current Chief Minister of Gibraltar, Fabian Picardo, was passed by Parliament.
She took over as Mayor of Gibraltar from Canepa on April 5, 2017.
