The Ascension to Stardom
KalaniHilliker has been dancing since she was two years old. It was evident from her very first performance, a recital, that she was destined to be a performer. She continued her dance instruction at Club Dance in Arizona when she was five years old, and then at the Master Ballet Academy when she was 10 years old. She participated extensively in the US dance circuit, winning multiple solo regional and national titles at competitions such as Dance Awards, Nuvo, Jump, Showbiz, and Hall Of Fame, to name a few.
Her first professional break occurred in 2011, when she entered Disney Channel’s ‘Make Your Mark: Ultimate Dancing Off’ contest with several of her dance buddies, competing for a featured part on the hit television show ‘Shake It Up.’ Her band, AKsquared, took first place in the competition and was featured in the episode “Camp It Up.” Hilliker won Abby Lee Miller’s and the audience’s hearts when she competed in the second season of ‘Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition’ in 2013. She was, however, removed from the program during Vegas Week due to a poor Hip-Hop performance, but Miller called her back using her call-back card. She made it to the final four, but was ousted during the finals week’s group challenge. Hilliker’s journey, however, was far from over.
In the ‘Dance Moms’ season 4 episode ‘Big Trouble In The Big Apple,’ Abby Lee Miller invited Kalani Hilliker and her mother, Kira Girard, to join the Abby Lee Dance Company after being blown away by her dancing abilities. Kira and her mother opted to return to Arizona after the season’s midseason finale episode ‘Presenting My New Team,’ with Kira noting that family was more important to them than fame. Despite leaving the show, Kalani returned for the fifth season as a member of the ‘Junior Elite Competition Team.’
She has also appeared on ‘America’s Got Talent’ and ‘The View’ in addition to these two reality shows.
