Kim Seul-gi is a South Korean actress who has appeared in a number of well-known South Korean films and television programs. She used comedy as a way to alter her thinking when she was depressed, and it eventually helped her become an actress. She began her acting career in 2011 with a tiny role in the television series ‘Heartstrings,’ and later that year she appeared in a large theatrical production of ‘Romeo Landing on Earth.’ By 2012, she had already made her feature debut in the independent film ‘Dong-haeng.’ Following her initial success, she began to make contacts in the industry, as well as the confidence needed to perform in front of the camera. Despite her preference for tragic parts, she claims that comedy has never left her and continues to be a coping technique for her extremely sensitive demeanor. She began doing variety programs in 2010 with ‘Infinite Challenge,’ and she has since been in over a dozen shows, most recently in ‘Happy Together.’

Childhood and Adolescence

Kim Seul-gi was born on October 10, 1991, into a lower middle-class household in Busan, South Korea. She was the second child and had been a daydreamer since she was a small girl. She was known in the family as a rebel who aspired to be a famous someday, but her mother was against it, believing that it would cost them a lot of money if her daughter pursued that path. But, for some reason, Kim realized the worth of her dreams, which motivated her to strive harder toward realizing them, and the rest is history.

Despite their financial difficulties, the family refused to lament about it. They were comfortable with the fact that even didn’t have much to eat, and they joked about it now and again. And it was from there that Kim gained her sense of humour. She enjoyed making people laugh, which made her a popular student at school.

Because of her family’s reluctance, she hadn’t considered a future in the entertainment industry by the time she was in high school. But something changed her perspective on life, and she decided it was time to let go of everything, and she flew to Seoul.

In her senior year of high school, she experienced heartbreak, which enabled her to put everything behind and go forward. She began doing comedy while battling depression and maintained her studies at the Seoul Institute of Arts at the same time. She was cast in a few undergraduate theatrical shows before being chosen for a stint on the live comedy show SNL Korea, which she landed thanks to the support of a director who had previously worked with her on one of her early pieces.

Career of Kim Seul-gi

She had an appearance on the extremely famous variety show ‘Infinite Challenge’ in 2010, and this tiny role landed her a job as a commentator and crew member for ‘Saturday Night Live Korea’ in 2011, where she stayed for all four seasons. She landed some decent ad jobs and continued with the auditions to break into fiction television.

When her career in movies didn’t go as planned, she switched to independent films, starring in two indie films in 2012: ‘Dong-haeng’ and ‘Pyung Haeng-sun.’

She had also dabbled in television by then, with roles in the romance drama ‘Heartstrings’ in 2011 and ’21st Century Family’ the following year. Despite her dissatisfaction with the duration and overall quality of her roles, she understood she needed to work her way up the ladder slowly in order to reach the success she desired, so she continued to do those smaller roles for the following couple of years.

She starred in two drama specials in 2012, one for ‘Noh Sook-Whereabouts’ ja’s and the other for ‘Another Wedding.’
In 2013, she joined the cast of the horror anthology film ‘Horror Stories 2’, a sequel to the critically acclaimed and highly profitable ‘Horror Stories.’ Kim appears in the fourth and last chapter of the film, titled ‘The Accident.’ She shone in a tiny role as Yoon Mi-ra, which led to bigger roles in films and television dramas.

She starred in dramas like ‘Flower Boys Next Door,’ ‘Pretty Man,’ and ‘Reply 1994′ in 2013. Her performance was acclaimed yet again, as she managed to strike a great balance between all three parts of the South Korean entertainment industry: films, TV dramas, and variety programs. She performed in four different variety shows in 2013, including ’20s Choice Awards,’ ‘Infinite Challenge,’ ‘World Challenge,’ and ‘Hidden Singer 2’.
Working nonstop and consistently bringing her talent to the attention of the public through constant appearances,

She gradually built up a fan following on her own and more industry professionals began to notice her talent.
The year 2014 ended up being the busiest of her life up to that moment. She was cast in films including ‘Miss Granny,’ ‘Ode to My Father,’ and ‘Mood of the Day,’ as well as television shows like ‘I’m Dying Soon,’ ‘The Ideal Mermaid,’ ‘Discovery of Love,’ and ‘A Resentful Woman’s Diary.’ She only appeared in one variety show during her extremely busy year, ‘Witch Hunt.’

As her fame grew, so did the length and importance of her roles, prompting her to focus more on television roles.
She appeared in the films ‘Kill Me, Heal Me,’ ‘Oh My Ghostess,’ and ‘Splash Splash Love’ in 2015.

In 2016, she made a cameo role in the film ‘Mood of the Day,’ and she also had a number of solid appearances in the series ‘The Second Last Love’ and ‘Love in the Moonlight.’ With ‘Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo’ and ‘The Legend of the Blue Sea,’ she ended a fairly good year. In the latter, she played a mermaid, while in the former, she played a grocery assistant. 2017 saw the release of the series ‘Three Colour Fantasy’ and ‘The Guardians,’ as well as the science fiction film ‘Fabricated City,’ which received mixed reviews. In the same year, she participated on ‘Happy Together,’ one of South Korea’s most popular variety shows.
