South Korean singer-songwriter Kim Yugyeom is currently a member of the K-pop boy band Got7. JYP Entertainment formed Got7 in 2014, and since then, it has become one of the most well-known K-pop acts worldwide. Yugyeom is a South Korean native who has lived in Saudi Arabia for a significant portion of his life. Before making his Got7 debut, he took part in some dance competitions. After JB, Jinyoung, Mark, and BamBam, he was the fifth future member of Got7 to be employed by JYPE when he joined as a trainee in 2010. Career of
JP and Jinyoung were the first potential members of Got7 to join JYPE after they passed their 2009 audition. Mark was hired in Los Angeles, California, in the United States, and BamBam in Bangkok, Thailand, at the beginning of 2010. Yugyeom was competing in several dancing competitions at the time. He was asked if he wanted to be a JYP trainee while he was enrolled at a dancing school. After accepting, he started working on the idea. Jackson, who had advanced through the international auditions, joined the other boys in December. In the fourth episode of Mnet’s reality survival program “Who is Next: WIN,” in September 2013, Yugyeom, Mark, Jackson, and BamBam performed as a singing quartet. Youngjae, the group’s seventh and last member, was hired shortly after.
On January 1, 2014, JYPE announced their new pop group to the world. Got7 was referred to as a hip-hop group that incorporates b-boying and martial arts trickery into their performances. On January 20, they released “Got It?,” their debut EP. The EP was a big hit, peaking at number one on the US World chart and number two on the Gaon Music Chart. In June 2014, they followed it up with the release of their second EP, “Got Love.” They released the “Got Love Taiwan Special Edition” box set in July. Besides ‘Identify’, the group has released two additional Korean studio albums, ‘Flight Log: Turbulence’ (September 2016) and ‘Present: You’ (September 2018), and one Japanese studio album, ‘Moriagatteyo’ (February 2016). All the three Korean studio albums topped the Gaon Music Chart at some point. “GOT7 Arena Special 2017 “My Swagger”” is their sole video album to date, which was released in April 2018.
Yugyeom competed in the 10th edition of Mnet’s “Hit the Stage,” defeating competitors including IOI’s Kim Chung Ha, Block B’s U-Kwon, Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon, NCT’s TEN, and MONSTA X’s Shownu. Yugyeom ultimately won the competition. He has received multiple honors as a member of Got7, including four Golden Disk Awards, three Gaon Chart Music Awards, and three Seoul Music Awards. He was included on the “Fly” Tour in 2016 and the “Eyes on You” Tour in 2018. Yugyeom, along with the rest of the group, has starred in various web reality shows as well as the web drama ‘Dream Knight’ (2015).
