American singer-songwriter-actor-record and television producer Marco Antonio Muniz, better known by his stage name Marc Anthony, is an American citizen. He was raised in Spanish Harlem, New York City, where he was born. He began performing for house music events in New York City and freestyle. Early Life & Childhood
Felipe Muniz and Guillermina Muniz are the parents of Marc Anthony. His father was a small-time musician and a hospital lunchroom worker while his mother was a homemaker.
Anthony, who is of Puerto Rican heritage, and his seven siblings grew up in Spanish Harlem and El Barrio. He was given the name Marco Antonio Muniz in honor of the well-known Mexican singer of the same name.
Anthony began singing at a very young age and soon recognized that to become well-known, he needed to improve his stage appearance. Platinum-selling producer and songwriter Frankie Cutlass was raised nearby as well.
Career of Marc Anthony
Anthony began his singing career as a vocalist for underground New York house music and freestyle. He obtained small-time gigs for ‘Menudo’ and ‘Latin Rascals. He released his album “Rebel” in 1988.
He wrote and produced Sa-Fire’s album “Boy I’ve Been Told” about the same period. Additionally, he sang backup vocals for Ann-Marie on her song “With or Without You,” which Todd Terry and Little Louie Vega produced.
When Anthony was given another chance by the “With or Without You” producers in 1990, he co-wrote the lyrics and provided the vocals for the song “You Should know By Now” with Chrissy I-eece.
He contributed the vocals to the songs “Love Change” and “Here’s Your Hat” in 1992. Anthony’s debut album in Spanish, “Otra Nota,” was published in 1993. He turned down an invitation from “RMM Records” to record a Spanish album at first because he was hesitant, but he later had second thoughts. It made him a rising star in the Salsa world.
He released “Todo asu tiempo,” another salsa album, in 1995. The album was certified gold in the US and Puerto Rico for its outstanding sales. For it, he received a Billboard award and received a Grammy nomination.
Around this period, he began his acting career in minor roles in films that included The Substitute, Big Night, and Hackers. He and Puerto Rican vocalist Nazario performed in a musical called “The Capeman” on stage as well.
His third album, “Contra La Coriente,” was made available in 1999. He appeared in the HBO television special “Marc Anthony: The Concert from Madison Square Garden.” It was the first salsa record to appear on the 200-position Billboard chart.
