Childhood and Adolescence
Michael Christopher Fuentes was born in San Diego, California, on December 14, 1984. Vivian and Victor Gamboa Fuentes, his parents, are middle-class American-Mexicans. His father was a painter as well as a former jazz player.
Vic Fuentes, his older brother, was his primary caregiver. Both of his brothers attended Mission Bay High School, and he graduated in 2003. He also has a half-sister and two half-brothers. He has a brother named Nick Martin, who plays guitar in the band ‘Sleeping With Sirens.’
Both brothers were influenced by their father and developed a passion for music. Mike took up the drums while Vic sung and learned to play the guitar. They formed their own band, ‘Early Times,’ and began performing at local venues in their hometown shortly after. Due to copyright difficulties, the band was renamed ‘Before Today’ after three EPs. They formed the American hardcore rock band ‘Pierce the Veil’ in 2006 as they grew older.
Career of Mike Fuentes
Mike Fuentes made his debut with the band ‘Before Today’ in 2004 with an indie record. After striking a deal with Equal Vision Records, the album ‘Celebration of an Ending’ was released. However, the band disintegrated, and he went on to join their new band, ‘Pierce the Veil,’ as the drummer.
His brother Vic took up the lead vocals and played the rhythm guitar and keyboards while he played the drums and took care of the percussion. Tony Perry joined them as the lead guitarist, with Jaime Preciado providing bass guitar and backing vocals.
The brothers collaborated on songs and published the album ‘Flair for the Dramatic’ in June 2007 under the label ‘Equal Vision Records.’ The following year, he and the band ‘Supergroup Isles & Glaciers’ published the EP ‘The Hearts of Lonely People.’
In 2010, his band released ‘Selfish Machines’ under the label ‘Equal Vision Records.’ The album’s concept revolves upon human beings’ feral instincts. The album was a huge success, debuting at number one on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. The band performed at a variety of festivals in support of the record, as well as taking part in the ‘Vans Wraped Tour’ of rock music across the United States.
‘Pierce the Veil’ signed a deal with Fearless Records in 2012, and their album ‘Collide with the Sky’ was released. They embarked on their first UK tour to promote the record, which was named the best album of the year by ‘Rock Sound’ magazine.
‘Misadventures,’ their most recent album, was released in 2016, followed by the singles ‘The Divine Zero’ and ‘Texas is Forever.’ Their songs garnered positive feedback, and they remained one of America’s top rock bands.
Mike Fuentes also created his own hip-hop project, which he dubbed ‘MikeyWhiskeyHands.’ In March 2012, he got a recording deal with Velocity Records and released a handful of singles with him rapping over Pierce and Jaime’s music.
To popularize his music and connect with his fans, he embarked on a two-leg world tour with the bands ‘Sleeping With Sirens,’ ‘The Devil Wears,’ ‘Mayday Parade,’ and ‘Chiodos.’ He even appears in a documentary video about his band’s globe tour, which includes footage from their live performance.
