Nick Hexum’s Career

As a youth, Nick Hexum, who was musically oriented from an early age, played in various local bands, including ‘The Eds,’ ‘The Extras,’ ‘Unity,’ and ‘The Right Profile.’ In 1988, he joined forces with a few like-minded individuals to form the band 311.

Eventually, he established his own record label, What Have You Records, with 311 titles. Before earning a contract with Capricorn Records in 1992, the group issued four EPs/albums titled “Unity,” “Hydroponic,” “Dammit,” and “Downstairs.”

After that, 311 published numerous albums, including ‘Music,’ ‘Grassroots,’ ‘Transistor,’ ‘Soundsystem,’ ‘From Chaos,’ ‘Evolver,’ ‘Don’t Tread on Me,’ ‘Uplifter,’ ‘Universal Pulse,’ ‘Stereolithic,’ and ‘Mosaic’.

Hexum was later featured on the single ‘It’s a Rockin’ World’ from Joe Strummer’s ‘Chef Aid: The South Park Album’ Additionally, he provided vocals for the song “Age of Consent.” On the album ‘Master of Styles,’ the American vocalist also teamed with The Urge.

During the 2004 presidential election, Hexum and his musician brother Zack toured the country in support of John Kerry. The duo performed some of their own songs along with covers of their favorite songs by XTC, The Clash, Bob Marley, Coldplay, The Beatles, and Radiohead, among others.

Nick, his brother Zack, Gary Novak, Andres Rebellion, and Luke Miller are members of the Nick Hexum Quintet, which the singer August 2013 revealed. My Shadow Pages, the debut album by the band, was released on October 1, 2013.
