Noah Wyle was born on 4 June 1971 in Hollywood, California, to an electrical engineer and entrepreneur Stephen Wyle, and a registered orthopedic head nurse Marjorie Wyle. His mother was Episcopalian while his father was Jewish.

His parents divorced when he was a small child.  He attended the California Thacher School in Ojai. Later, he enrolled in a program in Theatre Arts at Northwestern University.
