Olivier Sarkozy, whose full name is Pierre Olivier Sarkozy, is a well-known French financier based in the United States. He is best known for being the half-brother of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the husband of actress Mary-Kate Olsen, who is now a fashion designer. He is also known for facilitating the $3 billion recapitalization of Sallie Mae (a publicly traded company). Sarkozy has come a long way as a banker since beginning his career in 1990. Dillon, Read & Co., UBS Investment Bank, The Carlyle Group LP, The TCW Group, and Credit Suisse First Boston, to mention a few, are among the companies and organizations for which he has worked. He is currently a trustee of the American Foundation Scholarship at the University of St. Andrews. He is also a member of BankUnited’s Board of Directors. In terms of his personal life, the father of two is happily married to Mary-Kate Olsen and has two children.
Career of Olivier Sarkozy
Olivier Sarkozy began his financial career in 1990, when he accepted a position with Dillon, Read & Co, an American investment firm. He was employed there for three years before leaving to join Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB). He was the managing director of both the Financial Institutions and Depository Institutions Groups at CSFB. Sarkozy then joined UBS Investment Bank as Global Co-Head of Financial Institutions Group in 2003. He helped Sallie Mae and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce recapitalize for $3.0 billion and $2.9 billion, respectively, at UBS.
Following that, The Carlyle Group LP named the French banker as Co-head, partner, and managing director. Sarkozy resigned from the company in May 2016. He is currently a trustee of the American Foundation Scholarship at the University of St. Andrews. In addition, he is a member of BankUnited’s Board of Directors. It’s worth noting that Sarkozy has also served on the board of directors of The TCW Group, Inc.

On May 26, 1969, in France, Olivier Sarkozy was born to parents Pal Sarkozy de Nagy-Bocsa and Christine de Ganay as Pierre Olivier Sarkozy. Nicolas and Guillaume Sarkozy are two of his father’s three children from a previous marriage to another lady. Olivier Sarkozy’s mother divorced his father when he was seven years old and married an American ambassador. As a result, he spent the rest of his childhood outside of France. Sarkozy later went on to the University of St Andrews, where he received his M.A.
In 1997, he married Charlotte Bernard, a freelance fashion writer. The couple split in 2011 after having two children. A year later, the banker began dating Mary-Kate Olsen, a former TV personality, and they married in 2015.
