Kennedy was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 23, 1976. He was reared by his mother in Los Angeles until he was six years old, then he returned to Detroit and began living with his father, who died when Kennedy was sixteen.
Kennedy attended Grand Rapids Community College before attending Western Michigan University and graduating in 2000. After that, he attended the University of Delaware’s graduate theatre program. Kennedy and his partner Christina Penland, as well as their two kids Chirstin and Timothy, currently reside in Los Angeles, California.
