American philanthropist and blogger Parris McBride is most recognized for being the lifelong spouse of renowned novelist and short-story author George R. R. Martin. Because of his epic fantasy book series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” which served as the inspiration for the HBO series “Game of Thrones,” George is also referred to as the American Tolkien. Parris maintains a live journal where she shares fascinating personal anecdotes. Known for her generosity, she asked her followers to donate money to animal charity instead of sending presents after her marriage. She and her husband have been ardent supporters of the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in New Mexico since the 1990s. The sanctuary aims to rehabilitate both domestic and wild wolves. She contributed to the Pearl Foundation’s 2013 fundraising efforts for writing scholarships. In 2015, she made a $2.7 million contribution to the artists collective Meow Wolf.

Ascent to Fame

Throughout her early years, Parris McBride was a nomadic child who moved around a lot in an attempt to create her own niche in the world. However, she made the decision to return to Portland in the early 1980s to reside in an area close to her friends. She started working as a waiter at “Old Wives’ Tales,” a lesbian feminist restaurant. According to reports, she was having problems at the restaurant because she was playing politically inappropriate music. Once she moved in with George R. R. Martin, who would become her husband, she started working at a Sambo’s restaurant. Since the early 1980s, she and her companion have gone on many “adventures” together at comic book and sci-fi conventions and on road trips. But she only became well-known after Martin became well-known after the release of “A Song of Ice and Fire,” particularly when he became a household name because of the “Game of Thrones” television series.

Individual Life of Parris McBride

Portland, Oregon, is where Parris McBride was born and raised for the majority of her early years. Self-confessed hippy, she had put ‘crazed hippie reaches quarter century’ on her 25th birthday invitation cards. In her early 20s, she moved away from her hometown, but she finally settled back there. She has spent the last forty years collecting mementos from the epic novel series “The Lord of the Rings,” written by J. R. R. Tolkien, which she devoured as a child.

Connection to George R. R. Martin

In 1975, Parris McBride went to the Kublakhan in Nashville and met George R. R. Martin, who would become her husband. Martin and several of his pals were taking a bath in the women’s sauna when she entered. She drew him in right away, and by the end of the day, everyone was getting into crazy “chicken fights” in the pool. Martin was already seeing Gale Burnick at the time; they were to get married later that year. Martin claimed that McBride was more drawn to his friend Joe Haldeman. Nevertheless, McBride and Martin reconnected in 1981 after his marriage to Burnick ended in divorce in 1979.

At first, the relationship was a distance one: Martin was living in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he had gone in 1979 to pursue a full-time writing career after quitting his teaching position, while McBride was in Portland. They both spent a great deal of time trying to persuade the other to relocate to their current place. Martin was the last to laugh, having arranged for her to have a “visit” to his Santa Fe house, where he humorously explained that the purpose was to make her addicted to sopapillas and green chiles. Since she moved into his former home on Declovina Street in Santa Fe in 1981, they have been together.

They had a cat soon after moving in together, Mulligan, who was fondly referred to as their firstborn and after whom Martin named a Night’s Watch brother in his books. After more than three decades of dating, the couple finally made the decision to get married in 2011. The pair got married in a modest ceremony on February 15th at their Santa Fe home. On August 19, 2011, they had a larger tradition and celebration at Renovation, the ’69th World Science Fiction Convention,’ in Reno, Nevada. On February 17, 2011, they both announced their marriage to their fans via blog postings. Martin even made a joke about how, thirty years into their relationship, they could finally decide “that maybe this relationship was going to work out after all.” Remarkably, Martin—who is infamous for eliminating fan favorites—has declared that he will not murder Arya Stark despite Parris’s assurance to the contrary.
