As a self-confessed globetrotter, Pocket Sun is an entrepreneur, investor, co-founder, and manager of SoGal Ventures, a multimillion dollar business. SoGal Ventures is the world’s first and largest female-led millennial venture capital firm, with 13 chapters worldwide. She became one of the youngest persons to feature on the cover of ‘Forbes’ magazine in 2016 at the age of 24 after being listed among the ‘Forbes 30 Under 30’. Among the youngest “LinkedIn 2015 Top Voices in VC and Entrepreneurship,” she was listed. She had first begun with the women’s networking club SoGal and later founded the She Power Organization (SPO) in Shanghai, China, and SheVC, an organization that serves the Asian region. ‘SoGal AdVentures’ is the name of her blog. She has given speeches at conferences organized by PwC, Coca-Cola, BoA Merrill Lynch, Accenture, Ogilvy & Mather, London Business School, National University of Singapore, Microsoft CEO Summit, Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit, and TEDx. She invests in males as well as women because she wants to bring in variety and balance, even though her venture capital firms are predominantly centered on women.

Ascent to Fame

Pocket Sun started his business studies with the intention of becoming an entrepreneur in the future. She became aware of the need for a strong female role model, nevertheless, after being frustrated by the constant presence of all-male judges, pitch teams, and presenters. She also came to the realization that most venture firms encourage start-ups founded by males because most funding decisions are made by men, which undermines the chances of women entrepreneurs who lack access to finance. Driven to find a solution, she pushed herself to launch something independently, leading her to start the female global networking club SoGal in September 2014, just two months into her master’s program in entrepreneurship at the University of Southern California. The effort quickly started to plan conferences, events, and startup contests.

She made the decision to write about entrepreneurship and venture capital in 2015 because there weren’t many female voices in the area. One of the youngest “LinkedIn 2015 Top Voices in VC and Entrepreneurship” was subsequently chosen for her. She co-founded SoGal Ventures in June 2015 with Elizabeth Galbut, a friend from a Stanford University venture capital course, and the company finally started operating in the US and Asia. One of the editors at Forbes who covered venture capital, start-ups, and international companies took note of her in 2016. On the magazine’s shortlist of contenders for its list of 30 notable persons under 30, he put her forward. When ‘Forbes’ listed her as one of the top 30 individuals in the category, she gained fame across the globe.

Individual Life of Pocket

On July 12, 1991, Sun was born in China. She believes that being reared like a boy and having largely male pals has given her an adventurous spirit. During an elementary school summer program, she acquired English language skills that aided her in her subsequent overseas studies. She went to the United States in 2009 to complete her undergraduate studies at The College of William & Mary in Virginia, where she received a Bachelor of Business Administration. She then enrolled in Stanford University’s venture capital course, “Insider’s Guide to Silicon Valley Investing.” Later, as her visa was about to expire, she returned to school at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California to earn a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. When she’s not giving speeches or running her many enterprises, she enjoys using GuavaPass.com to book hot yoga, barre, and Zumba classes to revitalize her body and mind. She enjoys both music and travel, and she has a secret ambition to become a fashion blogger and host her own show.
