Early Life & Childhood of Radha Mitchell

On November 12, 1973, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Adriana Mitchell, a former model who is now a designer, and Norman Mitchell, a filmmaker, welcomed Radha into the world as Radha Rani Amber Indigo Ananda Mitchell. When she was six years old, her parents separated.

About her name, Radha states that it is “a creative byproduct” that resulted from her mother’s experiences during her 1970s exploration of Indian spirituality. Her name is composed of three Indian words: “Radha,” the name of a well-known Hindu goddess; “Rani,” which means “queen”; and “Ananda,” which means “happiness.”

She attended St. Michael’s Grammar School in St. Kilda, Victoria, for her education. It was here that she began taking acting classes and gained her first acting experience. She would frequently stop by her father’s studio, which allowed her to gain some basic experience in the entertainment business.
After graduating, Radha moved to the United States to attend the “University of California” to pursue her fine arts studies.
