Renate German music producer and sound engineer Ruth Margot Blauel. She is Sir Elton John’s first and only wife, an English singer, pianist, and composer. In her family and early years, there is very little to no information available. She was a native of Berlin who, in the years before she married John, rose to fame as a sound engineer and music producer, working with artists like Mike Oldfield, Piet Veerman and The New Cats, The Human League, and The Blues Band. She has also held stewardess positions in airplanes. In a grandiose wedding, she wed John on Valentine’s Day in 1984. Most people in the media at the time saw their wedding as a cover-up for John’s homosexuality because he had been publicly bisexual for quite a few years. After a cordial divorce that lasted four years, Sir Elton had the guts to come out as gay. Blauel has lived a largely alone life ever since then. She went back to Germany in the early 2000s to care for her ailing parents.

Early Years of Renate Blauel

In a divided Germany, Renate Blauel was born on March 1st, 1953 in Berlin. Germany was governed by the Allies after World War II, including the Soviet Union, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and France. The French, British, and American-occupied regions became West Germany in 1949, while the Russian-occupied regions became the Marxist-Leninist German Democratic Republic or East Germany. Renate Blauel grew up in a turbulent time as a result of the ongoing political unrest in the area. Nothing else about her early life is known.

Career of Renate Blauel

When Renate Blauel first entered the music business, she was employed by Croatia Records. On Mike Oldfield’s album “Platinum,” which was published in 1979 by Virgin Records, she served as an assistant engineer. Additionally, she collaborated with Vitesse on their Bovema Negram-released album “Rock Invader.” She worked as the sound engineer on five albums that were published in 1980: The Blues Band’s “Ready,” Ryuichi Sakamoto’s “B-2 Unit,” Stephen Bishop’s “Red Cab to Manhattan,” Japan’s “Gentlemen Take Polaroids,” and Piet Veerman’s “Back To You.”

The opportunity to collaborate with Marvin Gaye on his album “In Our Lifetime,” The Teardrop Explodes on “Wilder,” and Sunny Jim Band on “Jay” presented itself to Blauel the following year. She worked with Pete Townshend on “All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes,” The Jam on “The Gift,” and Duran Duran on their 1982 album “Rio.” For the first time, she and John collaborated on his 1983 album “Too Low for Zero.” In the years that followed, they would work together on a number of other projects, including the 1984 album “Breaking Hearts.”

Getting married to Sir Elton John

John mentioned Linda Woodrow, his late 1960s fiancée, in his 1975 song “Someone Saved My Life Tonight.” However, as the wedding day in 1969 drew near, Reginald Kenneth Dwight’s son John grew progressively more adamantly opposed. In his private life, he was a gay guy who kept his orientation a secret from most people. Eventually, lyricist Bernie Taupin and blues musician Long John Baldry spoke with him and persuaded him to put off the wedding.

John came out as bisexual in a 1976 interview with Rolling Stone. When Blauel and John first connected in the 1980s, she quickly joined his group of friends. They collaborated on “Breaking Hearts” while she was on the Caribbean island of Montserrat. In the early 1980s, John struggled with a lot of personal problems. Along with having a bulimia diagnosis, he also had a serious drug addiction. In February 1984, when they were visiting Sydney, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. They were wed in a lavish ceremony in Australia four days later, on Valentine’s Day. She wed in a pricey gown adorned with 63 diamonds, and soon after, she and her spouse moved into a luxurious estate near Windsor.

At the time, the marriage was widely believed to be a cover for his homosexuality by the media. After four years of marriage, they eventually divorced in 1988. On November 18, 1988, the divorce was legally finalized. She reportedly received £5 million as part of the divorce settlement, according to some sources. She then relocated to a little cottage near Shackleford, Surrey, where she stayed for the next ten to fifteen years before returning to Germany to care for her ailing parents.

Regarding John, he admitted that he is gay in a subsequent interview with Rolling Stone not long after the divorce. He married David Furnish, a former advertising executive and director, on December 21, 2014. Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John (born 2010) and Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John (born 2013) are their two sons. He has declared his undying love and admiration for Blauel and expressed apologies for making her feel sad.
