On October 12, 1993, Seo was born Lee Seung-Hwan in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. His last name is Lee. Together with his older sister, he was raised.
His ancestry is South Asian. His parents did not object when he expressed his desire to become an actor, but he had to take on part-time jobs to cover his expenditures because they did not provide him with any money.

When Seo joined the band “5urprise,” he made his singing debut in the entertainment world. He was the group’s five men’s idol leader.

In contrast to other music groups, “5urprise” made its debut via the mobile drama “After School: Lucky or Not.” The group released it’s single, “Hey You Come On,” which was used on the show’s soundtrack.
Seo had previously made appearances in the music videos for groups and artists including “Hello Venus” and Ailee before making his band debut. At the 7th Korea Drama Awards in 2014, Seo received his first honor for “Cunning Single Lady” in the category of “Best New Actor.” He was nominated in the same category for both the MBC Drama Awards and the 16th Seoul International Youth Film Festival.

At the KBS Drama Awards, he was nominated in the category of “Best New Actor” for his performance in “What Happens to My Family?” For his work in “Roommate,” he was nominated for another SBS Entertainment Award in 2014.

He took home the “Hot Star Award” at the 8th Korea Drama Awards in 2015 for “Splendid Politics.” For his work in the series, he was also nominated for an Excellence Award, Actor.
