Slim Jimmy is a member of the hip hop duo ‘Rae Sremmurd’ and an American musical artist, rapper, and hip hop sensation. Slim Jimmy, together with his brother Swae Lee, has released two albums and a slew of singles that have topped the Billboard charts in the United States. He began his musical career as a member of the trio ‘Dem Outta St8Boyz’ when he was very young. The three-piece band used to write music at home and then perform their songs at gatherings. However, when the band’s third member quit, he and his brother created their own duo and began recording their own music. His single “Black Beatles” topped the charts all around the world. He grew up in the infamous ‘Ida Street Housing Projects,’ where music didn’t have much of a chance, but he managed to turn the tables and make a career in the hip hop industry for himself and his brother. So far, he’s published two albums, both of which have been hugely successful. Slim Jimmy’s singles and albums have been nominated for several prestigious music awards. He has gone on two tours to promote his CDs in the short time he has been in the industry.

Early life and childhood

Slim Jimmy was born Aaquil Brown on December 29, 1993, in California. He and his family moved to Ida Street’s housing developments in Tupelo when he was a little boy. He grew up with his younger brother, Khalif Brown, who subsequently became known as ‘Swae Lee.’ His neighborhood was rife with crime, and he had been exposed to murder, rape, and drugs since he was a child.

His childhood was traumatic because his parents divorced just a few years after relocating to Tupelo. He and his siblings were forced to migrate from one home to another after their parents divorced. They established a trio band, ‘Dem Outta St8Boyz,’ with another band member, ‘Lil Pantz,’ around the same time. Slim Jimmy wasn’t his stage name at the time; instead, he went by the moniker ‘Caliboy.’

The band used to write music in Slim Jimmy’s basement, including cover tunes, and would perform their songs at local events. With the money he earned from his part-time employment, he used to buy new musical instruments.

Career of Slim

He originally came to prominence when he appeared on the ‘BET’ R&B and hip hop show ‘106 and Park.’ He was a part of the ‘Dem Outta St8 Boyz’ band, which also included Andre Harrys. He and his brother came in second place in the tournament and were hoping to acquire recording contracts soon after. They met with major record labels such as Def Jam Recordings and Sony Music, but no deals were struck.

The band’s third member, ‘Lil Pantz,’ left the band after the show. As a result, Slim Jimmy and his brother decided to establish their own hip-hop/rap group. Slim Jimmy signed his first record deal with the ‘Ear Drummers Entertainment’ label in 2014. As a result, he renamed the group ‘Rae Sremmurd,’ which is ‘Ear Drummers’ spelled backwards.

He and his brother started working on his first record under the label. For their debut album, he quickly came up with the moniker ‘Sremm Life,’ which was released on January 6, 2015. On the 18th of May, 2014, he released his first single, named ‘No Flex Zone.’ The song was a great hit, and it was played on every radio station in the country. In reality, his debut album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 in the United States.

Pusha T and Nicki Minaj remixed his debut record, which only added to the success of the already popular song. On the ‘US Billboard Hot 100’ music singles chart, ‘No Flex Zone’ came in at number 36. In the same year, he released the album’s second single, ‘No Type.’ On September 15th, the single was released to radio stations and reached number 16 on the ‘US Billboard Hot 100.’

The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) awarded both of his singles platinum because they topped many charts around the world. In December, he released his third song, ‘Throw Sum Mo,’ which featured Young Thug’s vocals and a guest appearance by Nicki Minaj.

On April 21, 2015, his fourth single, ‘This Could Be Us,’ was released. It was the first record to be played on the ‘Urban Adult Contemporary’ radio station, and it was followed by his fifth single, ‘Come Get Her,’ in September of that year.

He and his brother toured the United States in 2015 to promote their album ‘SremmLife.’ They began recording their second album soon after the success of their first. Slim Jimmy confirmed the title of his upcoming album, ‘SremmLife2,’ in 2016. The album was released in August of 2016. ‘Black Beatles,’ the album’s third single, cemented his place in the industry.

His second tour, which he did with his brother, took place between the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017. The tour was organized to promote his second studio album.
