Sofia Balbi, a young and vibrant Uruguayan woman, married renowned Uruguayan footballer Luis Suarez and rose to international recognition. When she was just 13 years old, she had her first encounter with Luis. When he was 15 years old, Luis Suarez worked as a street sweeper in Montevideo and was head over heels in love with Sofia. Although Sofia’s parents were somewhat well-off, they were prepared to tolerate their relationship even though Luis came from a very impoverished household. Slowly but surely, the two young people began dating often. Sofia and her family moved to Barcelona, Spain, when she was 14, and Luis continued to play for the neighborhood soccer team, Nacional. At the age of 19, Suarez relocated to the Netherlands after signing a deal with FC Groningen, a Dutch soccer team. Luis was eager to relocate to Europe so he could be near Sofia and be with her. Six years after Sofia had left Uruguay, Suarez proposed to her. Sofia gave birth to her first kid, a daughter, just one year after being married, and her second child, a son, arrived three years later. Sofia wishes to raise the kids in the background, out of the spotlight, and in the shadow of her husband.
Early Childhood & Life
Sofia Balbi was born on October 11, 1989, into a middle-class household in Montevideo, Uruguay. Before moving to Barcelona, Spain, in 2003, she lived in the capital city of Uruguay for the first 14 years of her life.
The father of Sofia, a member of the financial community in Uruguay, left on business to the coast of Spain. She has two sisters, Pao and Mariana, as well as a brother, Gonzalo Bali, who plays professional football.
When she was barely thirteen years old, she first ran into Luis Suarez. From a low-income background, Luis moved from Salto to Montevideo’s La Comercial district and used to clean the streets in and around his neighborhood.
When Suarez’s eyes landed on Sofia, he was a 15-year-old adolescent. The moment he laid eyes on her, he was instantly smitten. She remembers going out with Luis and watching him spend the money he had made from sweeping the streets and the coins he had found on the highways.
Marriage & Relationship
Suarez and Sofia grew fond of one another, which eventually led to a love connection. Despite being aware that Luis couldn’t compare to Sofia because he hailed from a poor home, her parents approved of their relationship. At Sofia’s house, Suarez frequently ate dinner with Sofia and her family.
In order for Suarez to one day become a successful player, her parents used to encourage him to take soccer seriously and to give it his best. Luis’s former youth soccer friend claimed that Balbi’s family had essentially protected and coached him.
In 2003, Sofia and her family moved from Uruguay to Spain and settled in Barcelona, where Luis continued to play for the neighborhood football team Nacional. Luis Suarez moved to Groningen, Holland, after signing a contract with Dutch team FC Groningen in 2006. Suarez requested permission from his coach to take a little vacation so that he could visit his fiancée, who lived in Barcelona, for a few days.
After getting married in 2009, Luis and Balbi received a daughter, whom they named Delfina, on August 5, 2010. The couple welcomed Benjamin, a son, as their second child in September 2013. Delfina’s speech had a Scouse accent, even though the family continued to reside in Liverpool (where Suarez once played for FC Liverpool).
To commemorate his son Benjamin’s birth, Luis Suarez wore a jersey with the words “Welcome Benjamin” emblazoned on it during a game. Brendan Rodgers, Suarez’s Liverpool coach, thought highly of Sofia. He claimed that Luis’s wife was a major factor in his development into a football star of the highest kind.
While playing for Uruguay at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Luis Suarez bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, which made him more notorious than the goals he scored. But shortly after the incident, he admitted to his wife that he had not intentionally bitten her. He acknowledged, however, that he had lied about the incident after TV replays and press stories adequately proved that he had in fact bit, Giorgio.
It was announced that Sofia Balbi would start a shoe store in Barcelona at the end of 2016. Since its opening in May 2017, the store has carried well-known international designer labels.
