Poppy is an American performer, songwriter, and YouTube personality who rose to prominence as a result of the immense popularity of her YouTube channel. In contrast to other artists, Poppy’s YouTube channel contained the most bafflingly abstract material. Her first-ever video, titled ‘Poppy Eats Cotton Candy,’ became immensely popular due to its humorous content. Poppy’s popularity propelled her to pursue a music career. Her debut single, titled ‘Everybody Wants To Be Poppy’ and released in 2014, had a touch of eccentricity and insanity. Critics asserted that Poppy was heavily influenced by J-pop and K-pop. Her channel provides commentary not only on the fact that she is on social media, but also on the internet as a whole. She constantly skewers the absurdity of individuals who make a living as public figures on the internet. The general tone of her videos has become progressively somber in recent years. Aside from music and videos, Poppy became the face of the first ‘Hello Sanrio’ collection by Japanese retailer Sanrio.
