Maisy Jude Marion Stella is a Canadian actor, and vocalist, better known as the half of the sister music duo ‘Lennon and Maisy.’ She rose to prominence with her portrayal as ‘Daphne Conrad’ in the ‘ABC’ musical drama series ‘Nashville,’ which was subsequently moved to ‘CMT.’ Her performing and acting abilities have garnered her recognition. She was raised in a musical family in Ontario, Canada, as the junior daughter of the musical duo ‘The Stellas.’ Despite having no musical training, Maisy performs in two-part harmony with her sister and plays multiple instruments. She auditioned for the television series ‘Nashville’, and both of her sisters were cast in the program. They required publicity in order to acquire their work visas, so they uploaded a cover of ‘Call Your Girlfriend’ and gained a following overnight. Since then, the sisters have released a number of tribute songs, many of which have reached the top of the charts. Maisy and her sister have also published ‘In The Waves,’ a children’s book based on their original composition of the same name. She has performed at numerous events and festivals and appeared on numerous media programs.
Youth and Early Life
Maisy Stella was born on December 13, 2003, in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, as the younger of two daughters of the husband-and-wife duo of singer-songwriters Brad Stella and MaryLynne Stella. The parents perform as a duo, ‘The Stellas,’ and Maisy creates a musical duo with her older sister Lennon, ‘Lennon and Maisy.’ She grew up on a farm in Claremont, Ontario, in a musically inclined family.
She did not receive any professional training in music, yet performed a number of musical instruments, such as guitar, and piano and she played ukulele since she was 3. She performs two-part harmony with her sister Lennon. They began composing tunes at a young age and accompanied their parents to concerts and music festivals.
In 2009, the Stella family moved from Canada to Nashville in order to advance the musical careers of their parents. They currently reside in Brentwood, Tennessee.
The sisters released an EP titled ‘Live YouTube Sessions’ in August 2012, and a Christmas single titled ‘Christmas Coming Home’ in the same year. As a child, Maisy was also engaged in acting in addition to music. She had appeared in a number of commercials and music videos during her youth. A new ‘ABC’ television series was being filmed in Nashville. With her mother’s knowledge, Maisy auditioned for the program. The casting agents discovered her elder sister during the auditions and decided to cast both of them.
Before the premiere of the ‘ABC’ series ‘Nashville’ in October 2012, Maisy and her sister were required to provide evidence that they were both legitimate vocalists and actors in order to obtain work visas. Therefore, the two females uploaded a cover version of Robyn’s ‘Call Your Girlfriend’ to the internet, and it became an overnight sensation. In less than two days, the video received nearly 2 million views. This notoriety earned them an invitation to New York City to perform on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America.’ Their combined YouTube channel now has over 700,000 subscribers and over 97 million views due to their increasing popularity.
In the television series ‘Nashville,’ Maisy portrays ‘Daphne Conrad,’ the daughter of the main character portrayed by Connie Britton. For seasons 5 and 6, the series was transferred from ABC to CMT (Country Music Television).
In the first season of “Nashville,” Maisy and her sister covered “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers. This song reached the ‘Top 40’ on ‘Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart in April 2013 after being released by ‘ABC’ on radio. This song is still the most downloaded of all TV show releases, and she and her sister have sold more singles than any other ‘Nashville’ cast members.
This was followed by an invitation to perform at the ‘CMA Awards’ later that same year, where Taylor Swift was presented with the ‘Pinnacle Award.’ During the summer of 2014, Maisy performed at the White House, sang at Kimberly Perry’s wedding, and appeared in performances in Park City, Utah, and Portugal, among other locations.
Beginning in 2014, Maisy and Lennon recorded the tune ‘Love’ for a television advertisement for ‘Coop Naturaplan.’ The recording received a gold certification and peaked at number one on the ‘Swiss iTunes Chart’ for three weeks.
Maisy and her sister have performed multiple times at the ‘Grand Ole Opry,’ a weekly country music concert held in Nashville, and their video on the ‘Opry YouTube Channel’ is the most viewed video.
In 2014, when it was included on the ‘Nashville’ cast Christmas album, a new version of their popular holiday song ‘Christmas Coming Home’ topped the US iTunes singles chart. Their rendition of ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ was featured in an HBO special, and their cover of Charli XCX’s ‘Boom Clap’ in February 2015 reached the ‘Top 25’ on iTunes and received 10 million YouTube views. In April 2015, Maisy and Lennon published their first children’s book, titled ‘In The Waves,’ with ‘HarperCollins Publishing.’ The book was inspired by the tune of the same name.
During the book promotions, the two sisters appeared on ‘Good Morning America’ for the third time, as well as on numerous other programs, including ‘BuzzFeed,’ ‘The View,’ ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ ‘TODAY Show,’ ‘Fox & Friends,’ and many others. Other popular cover versions by Maisy and Lennon include ‘Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked’ in 2015 (by ‘Cage The Elephant’), ‘Silent Night’ in December 2016, ‘Lean On’ (by ‘Major Lazor & DJ Snake’), and ‘Up and Up’ (by ‘Cold Play’), among others. In July 2017, Maisy sang and starred in the music video ‘Riding Free,’ which is the theme song for the ‘Dreamwork’ Netflix series ‘Spirits Riding Free.’ She also provided voice acting for the same series.
