Tamar Braxton is a singer, songwriter, actor, and television personality from the United States. She began singing background vocals for her sister at the age of 12 since she was so passionate about her craft. She aspired to be a professional singer when she grew older. When she and her sisters founded ‘The Braxtons,’ an American R&B singing group, and published their debut album, their goal came true. She also signed with DreamWorks Records and released her first album as a solo artist. Whitney Houston predicted that 14-year-old Braxton will become a star one day after hearing him perform. This bolstered the young lady’s drive to succeed. Aside from singing, Braxton’s creativity is manifested in a variety of ways: she creates, stars in, and hosts television shows. Braxton’s music career did not reach its pinnacle as expected at one point, but it did not discourage her. During that time, she concentrated on her television profession. She returned to the music industry over 13 years later with her second album, ‘Love and War,’ which was a commercial triumph. She has also established her own fashion line, ‘Get Your Life.’

Childhood and Adolescence

Tamar Estine Braxton was born in Severn, Maryland, to Michael and Evelyn Braxton on March 17, 1977. Her father served as a church minister. She is the youngest of six Braxton siblings (five sisters and Michael Conrad Braxton Jr.).
She has a fascination for music since she was a child and began singing at a young age. She used to sing in the church choir with her siblings.
She did not complete her high school education.

Career of Tamar Braxton

In 1989, the five Braxton sisters, including Tamar, created the R&B vocal group ‘The Braxtons,’ and released their first single, ‘Good Life,’ in 1990. As a result of the single’s poor performance, Arista Records dissolved the contract they had signed with them.

When Toni quit the group to pursue a solo career, the other sisters, including Tamar, were included in the music video for Toni’s single, “Seven Whole Days.”
The sisters returned in 1996 with a new album, ‘So Many Ways,’ which charted at No. 26 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Tamar quit the group in 1998 to pursue a solo career, signing with DreamWorks Records. ‘Ridiculous,’ her solo album, was released, and it featured a wide range of musical styles.
However, it had no effect on urban radio stations. Instead of canceling the album, Dreamworks Records renamed it ‘Tamar’ and removed three old tracks while adding new ones (2000). Her label pulled her from the list after the new tracks failed to make an effect.

‘Try Me,’ an unreleased song, was included on the soundtrack album for the film ‘Kingdom Come’ in 2001. She began writing songs and appeared in music videos, notably the video for ‘He Wasn’t Man Enough.’ Toni’s albums featured her co-writing tracks and singing backing vocals.
By 2004, she had began production on her second album and had released a song, ‘I’m Leaving.’ She released another single the next year.

She signed with Universal Records in 2010 and released the track “The Heart In Me,” which was featured on the “Adidas 2: The Music” compilation. WEtv hired Braxton, her mother, and her sisters for a reality show called ‘Braxton Family Values’ the same year. On April 12, 2011, the show premiered.
Braxton and her husband, Vince, announced in 2011 that they would produce and appear in their own reality show, ‘Tamar & Vince,’ based on her solo career and their married lives. Streamline Records offered her a new deal in 2012.

When her singing career didn’t take off, she tried a variety of other activities. During the ‘ELLE/Style360’ NYC Fashion Week, she modeled for the ‘Front Row Couture’ collection. Tameka Cottle’s chat show “Tiny Tonight on VH1” featured her as a co-host. She was the host of ‘The Culturelist,’ a show on Centric, BET’s sister channel.
In 2013, she began to gain recognition in the music industry, which she deserved. On September 3, 2013, she inked a deal with Epic Records to release her second album, ‘Love and War.’ The album’s title track was a commercial triumph, topping the Adult R&B Songs list for nine weeks.

The track ‘The One,’ from the album ‘Love and War,’ was a hit, reaching number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The album was also a hit in the United States, where it sold 114,000 copies in its first week. This album, according to Braxton, “really embodies who she is,” since it is outspoken, intelligent, and high-energy.
Braxton co-hosted Fox Broadcasting Company’s ‘The Real’ chat show from 2013 to 2016, which was a hit. In September of 2013, the second season of the ‘Tamar & Vince’ show began; this season featured the couple’s preparation for and birth of their kid, as well as the premiere of ‘Love and War.’

‘Winter Loversland,’ Braxton’s debut Christmas album, was released on November 11, 2013. It also made the Billboard 200 chart, selling 8,000 copies in its first week.
2014 was an exciting year as well. She was included in the remix of Robin Thicke’s track “For the Rest of My Life” in February 2014. ‘Tamar & Vince’ season 3 premiered in October. In October, Braxton debuted a new track, ‘Let Me Know,’ which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Trending 140 chart.

The track ‘If I Don’t Have You’ was released in May 2015 and reached No. 6 on the Adult R&B Songs chart in the United States. The song ‘Catfish,’ as well as the album ‘Calling All Lovers,’ were released in September. The track ‘Angels & Demons’ was released in September. The Christmas album ‘Braxton Family Christmas’ debuted at No. 1 on the US Heatseekers Albums chart in December.

She was fired from ‘The Real’ in May 2016. She secured a deal with 112th Street Productions in June 2016 to produce her own talk show and television series. She also departed Epic Records and inked a $1 million deal with eOne Music. She released the track ‘My Man’ from her upcoming fifth studio album in April 2017.
