The Epic Ascent to Stardom
In September 2013, Charlie Lenehan and Leondre Devries connected on Facebook. They had no idea that just five months later, they would be appearing on the 2014 season of “Britain’s Got Talent”! Additionally, after they performed during their audition, head judge Simon Cowell immediately advanced them through to the competition’s semifinals by pressing the Golden Buzzer. They gave a performance of a cover of the Twista and Faith Evans song “Hope” that they had written their own lyrics for, drawing on Leondre’s own experiences of being bullied in school. After then, they were unable to turn around. Devries publicly acknowledged that it was completely absurd to receive the Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell. They performed Puff Daddy and Faith Evans’ “I’ll Be Missing You” in the semi-finals of “Britain’s Got Talent,” along with brand-new verses about someone who had just lost a buddy. Thanks to their winning the semi-finals and moving on to the finals, their moving performance left the audience in tears. They sang their audition song in the finals and finished third behind Lucy Kay and Collabro. Despite losing, it was said that Devries and his pal were about to negotiate a recording agreement worth 500,000 pounds. In June 2014, they finally agreed to a one-single contract with Simon Cowell’s record company, Syco. They appeared on extremely popular programs including “This Morning,” “Good Morning Britain,” and “The Official Chart” on BBC Radio 1 to promote their record, “Hopeful,” which debuted at number five on the UK Singles Chart.
Keep Smiling, their following single, reached its peak in the Official Charts Company at number 52. The “Stay Strong Tour,” Devries and Lenehan’s debut headlining tour, allowed fans to hear songs from their future album. They also released the singles “Stay Strong” and “Beautiful,” respectively. They published their debut album in 2015, titled “143,” which reached number 4 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was preceded by their Summer 2015 Tour, an exclusive tour for the UK that featured a preview of “143.” The 143 Album Tour, their first global tour, which included performances in Poland and the Netherlands, came after that. Devries and Lenehan performed as singers as well as serving as the show’s main hosts on CBBC’s “Friday Download.” They also had an appearance in the “Friday Download” film “Up All Night.”
