When Cindy Breakspeare began modeling, her life underwent a complete 180-degree shift. Cindy Breakspeare was born in Toronto, Canada, on October 24, 1954, as Cythia Jean Cameron Breakspeare to Louis Breakspeare and Marguerite Cochrane. His mother was Canadian-British, while his father was a Jamaican with British-Jamaican ancestry. She is the youngest of four siblings, with three boys and one sister.

The family moved to Jamaica when Breakspeare was only four years old. She went the Immaculate Conception Preparatory School there. Cindy Breakspeare was bitten by the modeling bug when she was a teenager. She gave in to the allure of walking the runway and competed in a number of prestigious beauty pageants and events.
