At the age of four, Emma started ballet classes at “Novelli Stage School.” At the age of ten, she started participating in Latin American and ballroom dance. Slater was the “Principal Latin Dancer” in the stage production “Simply Ballroom” when she was sixteen years old. The performance made stops in the UK, the UAE, and South Africa. TV host Dalen Lance was Emma’s celebrity partner on “Dancing with the South African Stars” during the tour’s South African leg.

She won the 2005 British Under-21 Latin American Championship at Blackpool and the United Kingdom Under-21 Latin American Championship at Bournemouth while she was still a performer on the television program Simply Ballroom. She competed in dance contests at all levels, representing England, and her under-21 Latin dancing ranking put her in the top 20 worldwide.

Slater starred alongside Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, and Colin Firth in the Universal Pictures film “Mamma Mia!” from 2007. She also contributed vocals to the Grammy-winning music for the film, which “ABBA” produced.

She made an appearance in “Dirty Dancing” at the London West End’s “Aldwych Theater” later that year. Slater not only performed as the “Principal Latin Dancer/Ballroom Supervisor,” but she also understudied and took on the significant role of “Lisa Houseman.” Her other theater credits included “Latin Fever” at the “Peacock Theater” and “Cheek to Cheek” at “The Coliseum.”

During seasons 18 through 21, she also dated movie star Billy Dee Williams, professional racer and NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip, singer Redfoo, and “Vine” star Hayes Grier. She did not participate in the show’s 22nd season. She was paired with US Presidential contender Rick Perry in season 23.
