Liam Payne is a British singer and songwriter who is best known for being a member of the hugely successful British boy band “One Direction.” His skill in music and the performing arts had been obvious since boyhood; nonetheless, he aspired to be an Olympic athlete and trained regularly at Wolverhampton and Bilston Athletics Club. Nonetheless, fate had other ideas for him, and he was not picked for the Games, so he opted to devote more time to music. He was determined to make it big, and at the age of fourteen, he debuted as a solo performer on the British television talent show ‘The X Factor.’ Despite his excellent performance, Judge Simon deemed him too young to win. Not to be defeated easily, he worked harder in the gym and auditioned again two years later. He earned a greater response to his talent the second time around and was noticed by all of the judges. They formed the boy band ‘One Direction’ with him and four other contestants, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, and Zayn Malik. Though the group didn’t win the competition, understanding their great potential they were signed to Simon’s Syco Entertainment. Payne was not only the band’s lead singer, but also one of the band’s primary songwriters. The group’s debut album was a financial and critical triumph, and they’ve gone on to win several important music accolades since then. ‘Made in the A.M.,’ their most recent album, was released in November 2015. Within the band, Payne continues to grow as an artist, a writer, and a successful musician.
Childhood and Adolescence
Liam Payne was born in Wolverhampton, England, on August 29, 1993, to Geoff Payne, a fitter, and Karen Payne, a nurse. Nicola and Ruth are his two older sisters. He was born three weeks early, which resulted in a variety of illnesses and repeated hospital trips. One of his kidneys was damaged, and he had to receive 32 injections in his arm every day as a toddler to relieve the agony.
He attended Wolverhampton’s St. Peter’s Collegiate School. He was interested in both athletics and music when he was little. He ran for Wolverhampton Athletics Club and Bilston Athletics Club. After failing to make the English National Team for the 2012 Olympic Games, he chose to pursue music more actively.
He started singing and acting with Pink Productions, a local theatre group, by the age of 12. Instead of performing in front of his family, he was able to perform in front of a genuine crowd. He enrolled at City of Wolverhampton College to study music technology after graduating from St. Peter’s.
Career of Liam
Liam Payne auditioned for the television talent show ‘The X Factor’ in 2008 when he was 14 years old. He did well enough to go to the show’s penultimate stage, ‘Judges’ Houses.’ Judge Simon Cowell, on the other hand, believed that young Payne was unprepared for the demands of a live show competition and encouraged him to compete again in the following series.
By the following year, the X Factor’s application age had been raised to 16, making him unable to audition. In the meantime, he continued to work as a vocalist. In 2010, he returned to The X Factor and auditioned with Julie London’s famous ballad ‘Cry Me a River’. For his performance, the audience and judge Simon awarded him a standing ovation. His selection was approved by all four judges at the audition.
He sang ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’ in the ‘Bootcamp’ round and received three judges’ approval. However, Simon felt that his performance was one-dimensional, therefore he was grouped with four other contestants, at the suggestion of guest judge Nicole Scherzinger, to form a five-member band that qualified for the ‘Groups’ category.
The band so constituted made it to the show’s grand finale. However, they may only be able to take third place.
The band became known as ‘One Direction.’ One Direction was contracted to Simon’s Syco Entertainment after the show ended. They’ve released five albums so far. They became the first and only band in history to have all five albums debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 200 chart.
Payne is one of One Direction’s main songwriters. He co-wrote the majority of the songs on the band’s third and fourth albums with Louis Tomlinson. After Zayn Malik left the band in 2015, he took up his bandmate’s vocals.
In 2015, he co-wrote the song ‘The Night We Met’ for Irish boy band ‘Hometown.’
