Cheryl Scott is an American television meteorologist and geologist who currently works for ABC 7 Eyewitness News in Chicago. Originally from New Jersey, she developed a strong interest in science at an early age. During her school years, she excelled academically while also standing out as a talented track-and-field athlete. Her success in athletics earned her several opportunities, including admission to Brown University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Geological Sciences in 2007. She later expanded her expertise by obtaining a Meteorology Certification from Mississippi State University. Cheryl Scott began her broadcasting career in 2006 as an intern at WCAU-NBC 10 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The following year, she was hired by WSEE-TV as its weekend weathercaster. During this time, she also gained additional forecasting experience while working for a 24-hour Caribbean Weather Channel. After relocating to Knoxville, Tennessee, she joined WBIR-TV, an NBC affiliate, as a meteorologist.
In April 2011, a series of devastating tornadoes struck the Knoxville area, causing extensive damage and loss. Scott played an important role in covering the severe weather, keeping viewers informed about the storm’s movement and providing essential safety updates. After the disaster, she volunteered with the American Red Cross to assist relief efforts.
In September 2011, Scott moved to NBC 5 Chicago, where she served as the station’s morning and weekend meteorologist. Her growing reputation as a weather broadcaster led to her joining ABC 7 Eyewitness News in December 2014, where she continues to work as a meteorologist.
Family & Personal Life
Cheryl Scott was born on January 29, 1985, in New Jersey, to Marie Picciano Scott. She grew up in Atco, an unincorporated community within Waterford Township in Camden County, alongside her two older brothers, Kevin and Brian. From an early age, she developed a fascination with science while also displaying exceptional athletic ability. Inspired by her brothers’ enthusiasm for sports, she became a devoted supporter of Philadelphia’s sports teams, particularly the Philadelphia Eagles, and often wore one of her brother’s team jackets to school.
She attended Paul VI High School in Haddonfield, New Jersey, where she actively participated in track and field and also played soccer. Scott’s outstanding performances as a runner attracted the attention of college recruiters, ultimately earning her a place at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Geological Sciences and later earned her Meteorology Certification from Mississippi State University in 2010.
Because of her broadcasting career, Scott has lived in several parts of the United States, including New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Illinois, before eventually settling in Chicago.
Soon after moving to Chicago, she began playing recreational soccer. During one match, she suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, an injury that required hospitalization and significantly limited her ability to participate in sports. She later revealed in 2017 that she was still recovering and continued to experience the effects of the injury.
Scott was once rumored to have dated former Chicago Blackhawks player Patrick Sharp, although neither of them publicly confirmed the reports. In 2015, she entered a relationship with entrepreneur Josh Iachelli, owner of Homeslice Pizza in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood and co-owner of The Happy Camper. Their relationship ended in 2016.
She later began dating Dante Deiana, a Massachusetts-born DJ and entrepreneur, after the two met at a charity event. Performing professionally as Dante The Don, Deiana has worked as a resident DJ for Barstool Sports, a mixshow DJ for Kiss FM, a DJ for SiriusXM’s Pitbull’s Globalization, and as a sound and music engineer for the Chicago Cubs. He has also held leadership roles in Chicago’s hospitality and entertainment industry, including positions with Magnolia Cafe + Donuts, FWD Day + Nightclub, and Tally App.
In July 2018, while vacationing in Hawaii, Deiana proposed to Scott after the couple hiked to the summit of the dormant Haleakalā Volcano. Scott later recalled being so surprised by the proposal that she “totally blacked out” before happily accepting his marriage proposal.
