After concluding her education, Giada de Laurentiis worked in a number of Los Angeles restaurants. She subsequently founded her own catering company, GDL Foods, and attracted notable clients such as director Ron Howard. She simultaneously worked as a culinary stylist.

An acquaintance at ‘Food & Wine magazine requested that she write about her family’s Sunday meal traditions. After a Food Network executive read her article, she was invited to establish her own cooking show on the network. She attended Los Angeles Marymount High School. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles. From 2003 until 2015, she was married to fashion designer Todd Thompson. Their one and only child was born on March 29, 2008. Following her divorce from Thompson, she began dating television producer Shane Farley.
