Youth and Early Life

Jess Glynne was born in Hampstead, England, on October 20, 1989, to Jewish parents Laurence Glynne, an estate agent, and Alexandra (née Ingram), who worked in the ‘A&R’ division of ‘Atlantic Records.’ Her grandfather altered the family’s original name, Goldstein, to Glynne. Jess Glynne attended ‘Rhode Primary School’ in North London, where she was additionally raised. In 2008, she finished her A-levels at ‘Fortismere School.’ She auditioned for ‘The X Factor’ at age 15 but departed during the process due to a disagreement with the producers. Later, she held various positions at a boutique, hair salon, fitness center, and alcohol company.

Jess Glynne traveled to various locations and, upon her return, began working for a music management firm, through which she remained in direct contact with artists and the music industry. She completed a one-year music course at the “Access to Music” institution in east London. At this institution, she met songwriter Jin Jin and producer ‘Bless Beats,’ with whom she subsequently worked on her songs.

Career About Jess

‘Black Butter Records’ contacted Glynne after hearing a composition she and Jin Jin had created. Then, in August of 2013, she signed a contract with ‘Atlantic Records.’ She resigned from her job in brand management at a beverage company to pursue music at the time. In 2013, ‘Route 84’ asked her to rewrite and perform his song ‘My Love.’ (The composition included a sample that he was not permitted to use at the time.) Glynne appeared on ‘My Love,’ which was published in October 2013 on DJ Annie Mac’s compilation album, ‘Annie Mac Presents.’

After its release, the British band ‘Clean Bandit’ approached her about featuring on their song ‘Rather Be.’ The single ‘Rather Be’ featuring Glynne was published in January 2014; it was a huge success and won the ‘Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording’ in 2015. Glynne began her ‘Take Me Home Tour’ of the United Kingdom in June 2016 and took a hiatus following the tour.

In January of 2018, Glynne, Macklemore, and Dan Caplen were featured on Rudimental’s single ‘These Days.’ In March 2018, the song reached number one, making her the first British woman in the annals of the UK Singles Chart to have six number-one singles.
