Youth and Early Life

Michael David Rapaport was born in New York City on March 20, 1970. His mother, June Brody, was a New York radio personality. His father, David Rapaport, was a radio administrator and the general manager of the ‘All-Disco’ format at the radio station ‘WKTU Disco 92’ He has two siblings: Eric Rapaport and Claudia Lonow. Claudia is also a TV producer and an actor.  His mother subsequently married comedian Mark Lonow after his parents divorced.

Michael Rapaport spent his formative years on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. His ancestors hail from Russia and Poland. They are Jewish Ashkenazis. Rapaport attended “Erasmus Hall High School” in Brooklyn before being expelled from the institution. However, he resumed his education and graduated from New York City’s Martin Luther King High School.

Michael Rapaport’s Career

Michael Rapaport moved to Los Angeles in 1989, at the age of 19, to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian. His stepfather, Mark Lonow, was a co-owner of the comedy club chain ‘The Improv,’ which helped Rapaport find work as a comedian.

Three years were spent by Rapaport performing stand-up comedy. In 1990, Rapaport made his television début with the series ‘China Beach.’ He portrayed ‘Kravitz’ in the episode ‘One Small Step.’ In 1999, he played ‘Gary’ in four episodes of the popular ‘NBC’ sitcom ‘Friends.’

In 1993, Rapaport had a supporting role in the crime film True Romance. In 1999, he was cast as ‘Tom Scoggins’ in the science fiction horror film Deep Blue Sea. In the 2000 film ‘The 6th Day,’ which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as ‘Adam,’ Rapaport portrayed the protagonist’s best friend, Hank Morgan. In 2001, Rapaport provided the voice for the raccoon ‘Joey’ in the comedy ‘Dr. From 2001 to 2004, Rapaport starred in the ‘Fox’ drama ‘Boston Public,’ in which he portrayed teacher Danny Hanson.

In 2005, Rapaport joined the cast of the American sitcom ‘The War at Home,’ in which he portrayed the main character, ‘David Gold.’ The show told the story of a dysfunctional family battling their problems. The character ‘David’ was depicted as insensitive and cynical. Rapaport played the character brilliantly until the show’s cancellation in 2007.

From 2007 to 2008, Rapaport played the recurring character ‘Frank Stump’ in the series ‘My Name Is Earl.’ From 2008 to 2009, he was part of the cast of the ‘Fox’ crime-thriller series ‘Prison Break.’ He played ‘Homeland Security Agent Don Self’ in this series. From 2010 to 2013, Rapaport lent his voice to the Chihuahua ‘Squirt’ in the animated series ‘Pound Puppies.’ In 2011, he directed the documentary film ‘Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest.’

In 2010, Rapaport participated in the ‘NBA All-Star Weekend Celebrity Game’ and was named MVP for his defense against Terrell Owens. In the television series ‘The Mob Doctor,’ he portrayed the recurring character ‘Paul Moretti’ from 2012 to 2013. Michael Rapaport portrayed ‘Jason Mullins’ in the 2013 action–comedy film ‘The Heat,’ and he was selected as ‘Doug Gardner’ in the 2017 Netflix series ‘Atypical.’

The ‘I Am Rapaport Stereo Podcast’ is hosted by Michael Rapaport on the ‘CBS Local’ radio network. In addition, he has appeared on other programs, including ‘The Monday Morning Podcast,’ ‘The Adam Carolla Show,’ and ‘Pardon My Take.’

Rapaport wed writer and producer Nichole Beattie in 2000. Julian Ali Rapaport and Maceo Shane Rapaport were their firstborn children. In 2007, the couple divorced. In 2016, Rapaport married Kebe Dunn, who had been his longtime girlfriend. They are childless.

Rapaport was imprisoned in 1997 for harassing his ex-girlfriend, Lili Taylor. He entered a guilty plea in court. He was not incarcerated for the offense, but he was required to attend counseling sessions.
